Lexus introduced the current generation of the LX 570 in 2008. It received two subtle changes in 2011 and 2013, followed by a major facelift in 2016 that altered every panel and featured a redesigned interior. For 2019, it gets some options updates.

The LX 570 benefits from a 5.7-liter V8 with 383 horsepower and 403 pound-feet of torque, hooked up to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is also not its strong suit, at 13 miles per gallon city, 18 highway, and 15 combined on premium fuel. But the standard full-time four-wheel drive (4WD) system is better than most. With a limited-slip rear differential, crawl control, and the Multi-Terrain Select system, it has a real off-road pedigree. It also has 7,000 pounds of towing capacity and an adaptive variable air suspension with height control.

Lexus asks you to select between the Two-Row version of the LX 570, which seats 5 occupants, and the Three-Row version, which ups the number of seats to 7. The basic Two-Row comes with full LED exterior lighting, a four-zone climate control system, a 12.3-inch infotainment display with navigation, a power rear liftgate, leather upholstery, ambient lighting, a 14-way driver’s seat, a 12-way passenger’s seat, and memory settings. Also standard is a full year of Lexus Enform Remote, which lets you use your smartphone, smartwatch, or Amazon Alexa-enabled devices to start the engine, set climate control, lock and unlock doors, check the fuel level, track your vehicle’s location, and even monitor another person driving it.

Both the Two-Row and Three-Row variants offer the Luxury Package, which bundles heated and ventilated front- and second-row seats, richer semi-aniline leather, and “LX” projector door lamps. You can equip the LX Two-Row with a heated wood-and-leather-trimmed steering wheel and 21-inch alloy wheels with a painted and machined finish combination. The Three-Row grade offers features like a color head-up display, wireless charging, a 450-watt Mark Levinson sound system with 12 speakers, a dual-screen rear entertainment system, and a cooler that’s integrated into the front console.

All the safety features available on the LX 570 come as standard kit. A panoramic 3D camera system is as adept at navigating parking lots as it is at challenging off-road terrain. Hill-start assist, parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rain-sensing wipers also come with every model. The LX 570 also includes features like adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist. There is no public crash-test data for the LX 570, but that’s not uncommon for SUVs of this price point and size.

The Lexus LX 570 puts modern sheet metal and up-to-date interfaces on a time-tested foundation that blends genuine ruggedness with old-world luxury. Competitors may have more exotic mechanicals and higher levels of technology, but if you want to keep your luxury truck for years or even decades, an LX 570 is likely your best bet.
