Great vehicle, luxury ride; only thing missing is a CD Player. Comparable to the Range Rover Evoque.

2019 marks the Land Rover Discovery Sport’s fourth year on the market. There are a few important updates this year.

The Discovery Sport’s arrival marked a new era for Land Rover styling, with its high windowline, narrow grille, and simplified exterior features. Color-contrasting roofs and the optional Dynamic Design Package add further appeal to its sporty design. Inside, the materials and design are suited for comfort and luxury. And, thanks to its traditional profile, the Discovery Sport is the only compact luxury SUV to offer an optional third row, along with a sliding second-row seat.

Last year, Land Rover introduced its new Ingenium 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine. This unit is one of two different flavors beneath the Discovery Sport. The base version comes with 237 horsepower and 251 pound-feet of torque. A higher-output version, with 286 hp and 295 lb-ft, is also on offer. With either unit, all-wheel drive (AWD) and a 9-speed automatic transmission come standard. There’s also standard Terrain Response, which lets the Discovery Sport respond to different terrains and environments, tuning its engine output, electronic aids, and all-wheel-drive calibration.

All three of the previous trims, SE, HSE, and HSE Luxury, return for 2019. The SE trim kicks things off with 18-inch alloy wheels, 8-way front seats, partial leather upholstery, power-folding heated mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, keyless start, ambient interior lighting, and an 8-inch touchscreen. Scaling the trim ladder nets you everything from two grades of leather to a power liftgate with gesture recognition to a larger 12-inch infotainment system with navigation. Standalone options include heated and cooled seats, a heated steering wheel, and a heated windshield.

For 2019, Land Rover has updated its infotainment systems. There’s also a new grade slotting in price between HSE and HSE Luxury, called Landmark Edition. The Landmark Edition trim comes in either white, gray, or black, with a contrasting gray roof. It gets unique 19-inch wheels, a graphite grille, 6-way manual front seats, a sliding second row, a black headliner, perforated grained leather upholstery, a 190-watt sound system, and navigation.

Asf far as safety, the Discovery Sport comes with a reversing camera. However, it can be bundled with autonomous emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, a 360-degree camera system, automatic high beams, parking assist, lane-keeping assist, and traffic sign recognition. No major external agency has released crash-test data for the Discovery Sport.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport stands out as one of the few luxury SUVs that isn’t afraid to get dirty, inside or out.
