Why it stands out

It features a unique hatchback-meets-coupe shape and an unusual 3-door layout, giving it a look and setup that are immediately distinctive. That design helps create a sporty daily driver that is both fun and functional.

The Veloster is a fun car to drive. The standard model we bought shifts gears effectively. The safety features are very effective. I think the car is good value for the money we paid. We used to have a Honda CRX and this car tops that.

The expert score of 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety reinforces that it’s a practical pick with strong value and solid protection. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.
The market also shows 32.4% good or great deals, which suggests you can still find attractive pricing if you shop carefully.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Veloster reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Veloster is presented as a practical, sensible daily driver with a distinctive design, and the expert review emphasizes that it was completely redesigned for 2019. Its standard 2.0-liter engine is described as naturally aspirated, while the turbocharged versions add more power for buyers who want stronger performance. The expert review also notes that the car’s sporty setup still works well as a daily driver, which is a good sign if you want something engaging without giving up usability.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Hyundai Veloster?
At 62.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a turbo model or a car with a manual transmission. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim you think you’re buying. Because this model’s appeal is tied to its distinctive design and sporty character, you’ll want to make sure the car still feels tight, clean, and well cared for.
Key things to evaluate:
Trim level: The base 2.0 trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, heated power-folding side mirrors, a rear spoiler, and a lower rear diffuser. It also includes a manual-adjustable driver’s seat, a 60/40 split-fold rear seat, Bluetooth connectivity, dual USB ports, a reversing camera, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 2.0 Premium adds 18-inch alloy wheels, a wide sunroof, heated front seats, automatic temperature control, a wireless charging pad, voice recognition, push-button start, an Infinity sound system, and an 8-inch touchscreen. The Turbo R-Spec is the most affordable way to get the turbocharged engine, but it gives up some comfort features in exchange for unique seats, alloy racing pedals, a B&M Racing sport shifter, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 summer tires. The Turbo adds back much of the Premium content and adds turn signals integrated into the side mirrors, a perforated-leather-wrapped steering wheel, and power lumbar support. The Turbo Ultimate adds rain-sensing wipers, a 2-tone black roof, full-leather seating, navigation, HD Radio, and a head-up display.
Powertrain: The base engine is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. The turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-four in the Turbo R-Spec, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate makes 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. All models send power to the front wheels. A 6-speed manual comes standard on the 2.0, R-Spec, and Turbo Ultimate, while a 6-speed automatic is optional on the 2.0 and standard on the 2.0 Premium. The Turbo uses a 7-speed DCT, and the Turbo Ultimate can be had with that transmission as well.

The Turbo Ultimate adds an upgraded forward-collision avoidance system with pedestrian detection.
Infotainment: The base car uses a 7-inch color touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 2.0 Premium and Turbo Ultimate get an 8-inch touchscreen, and the Premium also adds wireless charging for compatible devices. The Turbo Ultimate adds navigation and a head-up display.

Which 2019 Hyundai Veloster trim should I buy?
The 2019 Hyundai Veloster is offered in 5 trim levels: 2.0, 2.0 Premium, Turbo R-Spec, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate.
Here's the short version:
2.0: This is the value play if you want the Veloster’s distinctive design and core tech without stretching your budget. It already gives you the 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a reversing camera, and the standard driver-assistance features, so it covers the essentials well.
2.0 Premium: This is the best fit if you want a more comfortable daily driver with extra convenience features. The heated front seats, automatic temperature control, wireless charging, upgraded audio, and larger 8-inch screen make it feel more complete without jumping into turbo pricing.
Turbo R-Spec: This is the best-value choice if you care most about getting the turbocharged engine for less money. You give up some comfort features, but you get the more powerful engine plus the sportier hardware and tires that make it the enthusiast’s bargain trim.
Turbo: This is the right middle ground if you want the turbo engine and a richer feature set than the R-Spec. It adds back useful comfort and convenience items, along with a more upscale steering wheel and driver-seat support.
Turbo Ultimate: This is the pick if you want the most equipment and the most upscale feel. The leather seating, navigation, head-up display, rain-sensing wipers, and upgraded safety tech make it the most fully featured version.
The 2.0 Premium, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate are the trims that replace the driver’s-side blind-spot mirror with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Hyundai Veloster?
The market looks moderately favorable if you’re selective and ready to move on the right car.
- Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 170 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.16% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 62.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,702, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Hyundai Veloster's resale value?
The current average of $12,165 sits slightly below last year's $13,103.
That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help you if you buy now and hold the car for a while. If demand stays steady, a lower entry price can make it easier to limit your future loss when you sell. The Veloster’s distinctive design and strong value proposition may also help it stand out to used shoppers later.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Veloster safe?
The 2019 Hyundai Veloster earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety features include a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, a tire-pressure monitoring system, a driver’s-side blind-spot mirror, forward-collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, and driver-attention warning. The 2.0 Premium, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate upgrade to blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the Turbo Ultimate adds pedestrian detection to its forward-collision avoidance system.
That means even the base car comes with a meaningful safety package, but the higher trims give you more advanced driver assistance. If safety is a top priority, the Premium, Turbo, or Turbo Ultimate are the trims to focus on.
Should I buy a 2019 Hyundai Veloster or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 62.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.16% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2019 model year was completely redesigned, giving you the newer shape, layout, and overall package described by experts.
The bottom line: If you want the Veloster’s redesigned look and a strong mix of value, safety, and driving enjoyment, the 2019 is the year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and focus on the lower end of the market range, but the 2019 stands out as the better all-around choice when you want the newest version of this design.
