Is the 2019 Hyundai Veloster a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Hyundai Veloster earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. For you, that means the Veloster makes the most sense if you want something practical but not ordinary, with a setup that blends everyday usability and driving enjoyment. The market also shows 29.2% of listings as good or great deals, which supports the case for shopping carefully.

Is the 2019 Hyundai Veloster reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2019 Veloster’s appeal is reinforced by its practical layout, easy-to-use cabin, and the way it combines functionality with a rewarding driving experience. Its standard equipment and redesigned packaging suggest a car built to be usable every day, while the expert assessment points to strong cost effectiveness and safety.

The 2019 Hyundai Veloster should be a sensible used buy if you want a distinctive compact car, but you should still verify maintenance history and overall condition carefully to reduce long-term ownership risk.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Hyundai Veloster?

At 60.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, alignment, and any signs of prior repair. Because the Veloster’s shape creates blind spots and its equipment varies by trim, it also makes sense to confirm that the safety and convenience features you want are actually present and working.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base 2.0 comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, heated power-folding side mirrors, a rear spoiler, a lower rear diffuser, a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, dual USB ports, and a reversing camera. The 2.0 Premium adds 18-inch alloy wheels, a wide sunroof, heated front seats, automatic temperature control, wireless charging, voice recognition, push-button start, an Infinity sound system, and an 8-inch touchscreen. The Turbo R-Spec is the most affordable turbo model, but it gives up some comfort features in exchange for a more focused setup. The Turbo and Turbo Ultimate add more premium equipment, with the Turbo Ultimate bringing the most upscale feature set.
• Powertrain: The base engine is a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. Turbo trims use a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four with 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. All models are front-wheel drive, and transmission availability varies by trim.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, tire-pressure monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, driver-attention warning, and a driver’s-side blind-spot mirror. The 2.0 Premium, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate replace the mirror with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the Turbo Ultimate adds an upgraded forward-collision avoidance system with pedestrian detection.
• Infotainment: The base model uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 2.0 Premium and Turbo Ultimate get an 8-inch touchscreen, and the Turbo Ultimate also adds navigation and a head-up display. Wireless charging is included on the 2.0 Premium and Turbo Ultimate.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0 with the 7-speed automatic returns 27 mpg city, 34 highway, and 30 combined. With the manual, it returns 25 mpg city, 33 highway, and 28 combined. The Turbo with the 7-speed DCT returns 28 mpg city, 34 highway, and 30 combined, and the manual drops mileage slightly from that.

Which 2019 Hyundai Veloster trim should I buy?

The 2019 Hyundai Veloster is offered in 5 trim levels: 2.0, 2.0 Premium, Turbo R-Spec, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• 2.0: This is the value pick if you want the Veloster’s distinctive design and core tech without stretching your budget. You still get the 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a reversing camera, and the standard driver-assistance features, so it covers the essentials well.
• 2.0 Premium: This is the best-value trim if you want a more comfortable daily driver. It adds the 8-inch touchscreen, heated front seats, automatic temperature control, wireless charging, push-button start, an Infinity sound system, and a sunroof, making it the most rounded non-turbo choice.
• Turbo R-Spec: This is the cheapest way into the turbocharged engine. It gives you the stronger 1.6-liter turbo power and a more enthusiast-focused setup, but it drops some comfort features, so it suits you best if driving feel matters more than luxury.
• Turbo: This trim adds back much of the comfort and convenience equipment while keeping the turbo engine. It also brings features like power lumbar support and an upgraded steering wheel, so it’s a strong middle ground if you want performance and livability together.
• Turbo Ultimate: This is the top choice if you want the most equipment. It adds rain-sensing wipers, full-leather seating, navigation, HD Radio, a head-up display, and adaptive cruise control with the automatic transmission, making it the most complete version.

The safety package is strongest on the 2.0 Premium, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate, which add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the Turbo Ultimate also gets the upgraded forward-collision avoidance system with pedestrian detection.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Hyundai Veloster?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so it’s worth shopping carefully and comparing listings.

• Deal availability: 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 161 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.81% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,697, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Hyundai Veloster's resale value?

The current average of $12,110 sits slightly below last year's $13,135.

That decline suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to move the car quickly. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation compared with paying closer to the top of the range.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Hyundai Veloster safe?

The 2019 Hyundai Veloster earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, tire-pressure monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, driver-attention warning, and a driver’s-side blind-spot mirror. The 2.0 Premium, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate upgrade that mirror to blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, and the Turbo Ultimate adds an upgraded forward-collision avoidance system with pedestrian detection.

For you, the main safety takeaway is that the standard package is already strong, but the higher trims give you more of the driver-assistance coverage you’ll want if you plan to use the car as an everyday commuter.

Should I buy a 2019 Hyundai Veloster or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.81% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It was completely redesigned for this model year, giving you the Veloster’s distinctive three-door layout with a sporty daily-driver feel.

The bottom line: The 2019 is the right choice if you want the redesigned Veloster’s unique look and balanced mix of practicality and driving enjoyment. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the best-condition examples near the low end of the range and compare them carefully against other nearby model years before deciding.
