The 2019 model’s redesigned hardware and broad standard safety equipment should help reduce day-to-day ownership stress, but you should still verify condition carefully on any used example. A history check and a close inspection matter most because prior incidents can affect long-term ownership risk.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Hyundai Veloster?

At 60.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or panel replacement. Focus on overall condition, signs of uneven wear, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base 2.0 comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, heated power-folding side mirrors, a rear spoiler, a lower rear diffuser, a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, a reversing camera, and a 60/40 split-fold rear seat. Higher trims add features such as a wide sunroof, heated front seats, automatic temperature control, wireless charging, an Infinity sound system, a larger 8-inch touchscreen, and, on the Turbo Ultimate, full-leather seating, navigation, HD Radio, and a head-up display.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque. Turbo trims use a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four with 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque, while the Veloster N is a separate high-output performance variant.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, tire-pressure monitoring, a driver’s-side blind-spot mirror, forward-collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, and driver-attention warning. The 2.0 Premium, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the Turbo Ultimate upgrades forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian detection.
• Infotainment: The base car uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims move to an 8-inch touchscreen, and wireless charging is included on the 2.0 Premium and Turbo Ultimate.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0 with the 7-speed automatic returns 27 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined. The 2.0 with the manual returns 25 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined. The Turbo with the 7-speed DCT returns 28 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined.

Which 2019 Hyundai Veloster trim should I buy?

The 2019 Hyundai Veloster is offered in 5 trim levels: 2.0, 2.0 Premium, Turbo R-Spec, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• 2.0: This is the value play if you want the Veloster’s distinctive design and core tech without stretching your budget. It already gives you the 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a reversing camera, and the standard driver-assistance features, so it covers the essentials well.
• 2.0 Premium: This trim is the better choice if you want more comfort and convenience, thanks to the larger 8-inch touchscreen, heated front seats, automatic temperature control, wireless charging, push-button start, and the Infinity sound system. It’s the best fit if you want a more upscale daily driver without moving into turbo pricing.
• Turbo R-Spec: This is the most affordable way to get the turbocharged engine, and it adds a more enthusiast-focused setup with unique seats, alloy racing pedals, a B&M Racing sport shifter, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 summer tires. It makes sense if you care more about driving feel than extra comfort features.
• Turbo: This trim brings back much of the 2.0 Premium’s equipment while adding turbo power, turn signals in the side mirrors, a perforated-leather-wrapped steering wheel, and power lumbar support for the driver’s seat. It’s the best all-around pick if you want the stronger engine and a more complete feature set.
• Turbo Ultimate: This is the top choice if you want the most equipment, including rain-sensing wipers, a two-tone black roof, full-leather seating, navigation, HD Radio, and a head-up display. It also gets the upgraded forward-collision avoidance system with pedestrian detection.

The safety package is strongest on the 2.0 Premium, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate, which add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert; the Turbo Ultimate goes further with pedestrian detection.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Hyundai Veloster?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 174 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.70% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,698, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Hyundai Veloster's resale value?

The current average of $12,149 sits slightly below last year's $13,163.

That softer pricing suggests the model has become more accessible for used buyers, which can help keep demand steady among shoppers looking for value. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in good condition, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation from here.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Hyundai Veloster safe?

The 2019 Hyundai Veloster earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, tire-pressure monitoring, a driver’s-side blind-spot mirror, forward-collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, and driver-attention warning. The 2.0 Premium, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the Turbo Ultimate upgrades forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian detection.

The Veloster’s unusual shape creates some blind spots, so the standard mirror helps, but you should pay close attention to visibility and driver-assistance coverage when comparing trims. The Turbo Ultimate is the safest-equipped version because it adds the most advanced collision-avoidance setup.

Should I buy a 2019 Hyundai Veloster or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.70% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Expert or safety highlight specific to this year from the redesign and the strong standard driver-assistance package.

The bottom line: The 2019 Veloster makes the most sense if you want the redesigned version with strong value, distinctive styling, and a fun daily-driver personality. If you’re shopping mainly on price, this year is attractive; if you want the newest equipment or a different balance of practicality and performance, it’s worth comparing nearby model years before you decide.

How does the 2019 Hyundai Veloster compare to the 2019 Honda Civic?

Our experts score the 2019 Hyundai Veloster 8/10 and the 2019 Honda Civic 7.8/10.

The Veloster gives you a lower average used price, a more distinctive design, and a stronger value story, while the Civic brings more mainstream appeal and a roomier, more conventional package. The Civic has the stronger highway fuel economy and more listings to shop from, but the Veloster stands out if you want something more unusual and engaging.
