Is the 2019 Hyundai Kona reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

For used buyers, that suggests the bigger risk is less about broad reliability concerns and more about finding a well-kept example with consistent maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Hyundai Kona?

At 68.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of body panels, alignment, tires, and interior wear so you can judge how well the car was repaired and maintained. Because the Kona’s cargo area is compact, it also makes sense to focus on whether the condition and layout still fit your daily needs.

What is the 2019 Hyundai Kona's resale value?

The current average of $13,626 sits slightly below last year's $13,896.

That softer pricing suggests the Kona is holding value reasonably well, but not aggressively appreciating in the used market. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in good condition, you should have a fair shot at limiting depreciation when it comes time to sell. Strong demand for well-equipped small SUVs can help, especially when the vehicle has a good ownership reputation.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2019 Hyundai Kona or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.94% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $15,136, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $13,626 average.
• It adds more standard driver assists.

The bottom line: The 2019 is the better value if you want a well-liked Kona at a lower price and are willing to shop carefully for condition. If you want a newer model with more standard safety tech and can stretch your budget, the 2020 is the cleaner upgrade path.
