About 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid
overall
Perfect for modern living, the affordable 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid delivers impressive efficiency, utility, and value in an inoffensive and reasonably enjoyable package.
I love spikes in gas prices. Seriously. My Southern California neighborhood gets quiet because all the people with loud motorcycles and fast muscle cars and giant trucks with oversized mud tires stop driving like they’ve got something to prove. When gas prices begin to climb, they'd all be well-served by trading in their gas-guzzlers for a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid. When it whirs about in electric vehicle mode, the Ioniq even sounds cool. My second-grader said so.

I love this car. With the way the world is going and all this inflation, this car has great gas mileage and enough space to place my very tall teenagers in the back. We should have been looking for this car awhile ago, but I am glad we found it now.

This car was a great value! Only 17,000 miles on a 2017 Hyundai Ioniq is fantastic! Drives like a champ! Drives great, good mpg!

Research told me to avoid it. Soy base electrical wiring attracts rats apparently. Not many older ones with high miles still on the road. 150k lifespan was not going to cut it. The car I test drove had nice pickup off the line but its materials were sun baked and brittle. Car is only six years old . Hyundai went with cheap paint and plastic.

Is the 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid a good car?
Generally — you rate it 4/5, and the expert rating is 8.33/10. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness and Technology. It is described as affordable and well suited to modern living, with impressive efficiency, utility, and value wrapped into an inoffensive and reasonably enjoyable package. That makes it a strong fit if you want to cut fuel costs without giving up everyday usefulness. 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop carefully.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The overview and expert notes both point to a car that feels practical, efficient, and thoughtfully built, with a predictable and agreeable driving character. The expert also highlights the car’s solid-feeling materials and refined controls, while the cost-effectiveness notes reinforce the value proposition with Hyundai’s assurance programs and free Blue Link trial period. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the hybrid system, transmission behavior, and feature set still match the car’s mileage and condition.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid?
At 74.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important. You should run a vehicle history report, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, and pay close attention to bodywork, tire wear, and how the hybrid drivetrain behaves in everyday driving. It also makes sense to compare trims carefully, because the safety and tech equipment changes meaningfully as you move up the range.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Blue is the cheapest version and looks the most basic, while SEL adds more equipment and a more complete safety setup; Limited brings more stylish detail, bigger 17-inch wheels, and additional premium touches.
- Powertrain: The hybrid pairs a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder gas engine with a 32-kW electric motor for 139 horsepower, uses a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission, and can run in EV mode at speeds up to 75 mph when conditions allow.
- Safety package: SEL includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, driver-attention warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change alert; automatic high-beam headlights are standard on Limited.
- Infotainment: Every Ioniq gets a touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, satellite radio, a USB port, an auxiliary input jack, and a reversing camera; SEL uses a 7-inch screen, while the Limited Ultimate package adds an 8-inch display, navigation, Infinity premium audio, and wireless device charging.
- Fuel efficiency: The expert test returned 53 mpg, versus an official EPA rating of 55 mpg and 58 mpg for Blue trim.
Which 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid trim should I buy?
The 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid is offered in 3 trim levels: Blue, SEL, Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Blue: This is the entry point and the cheapest trim, so it makes sense if your priority is getting the Ioniq’s efficiency and value at the lowest price. It looks the most basic, but it still gives you the core hybrid experience and standard infotainment equipment.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim for most used buyers because it adds the broadest set of driver-assistance features while staying below Limited pricing. It also gets the 7-inch touchscreen and the more complete everyday equipment mix that makes the car feel less stripped down.
- Limited: Choose this if you want the most upscale version of the Ioniq Hybrid, with more stylish exterior detail, bigger wheels, Blue Link services, and the option to add the Ultimate package for navigation, an 8-inch screen, premium audio, wireless charging, and extra convenience features.
The safety package is strongest on SEL and Limited, while Blue misses some of the more advanced driver-assistance and lighting equipment.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 147 listings available.
- Clean inventory: 74.8% of listings are accident-free.

Should I buy a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 74.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The expert highlights its impressive efficiency, approachable value, and EV-mode personality, making it especially appealing if you want a practical hybrid that still feels a little distinctive.
The bottom line: The 2019 is a smart pick if you want a used hybrid that emphasizes efficiency, value, and everyday usability. If you’re price-sensitive, focus on well-kept SEL examples first, since that trim balances equipment and safety features especially well.
