What should I look for when buying a used 2019 GMC Sierra 1500?

At 71.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, brake feel, and any transmission-related concerns mentioned by owners.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base, SLE, SLT, Elevation, AT4, and Denali are all mentioned, and the base truck is the most stripped-down version. Higher trims add more upscale materials and equipment, while the AT4 is the off-roading model and the Denali is the luxury-focused choice.
• Powertrain: The Sierra offers multiple drivetrains, including a 6.2-liter V8 paired with a 10-speed automatic in the test truck, plus Dynamic Fuel Management for improved efficiency.
• Safety package: Driver Alert Package 1 adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors. Driver Alert Package 2 adds forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, low-speed automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Adaptive cruise control, full-speed-range automatic braking, and lane-centering assist are not included.
• Infotainment: The Sierra includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the test truck adds an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, a Bose premium sound system, and a head-up display. It also offers a rear camera mirror, HD Surround Vision, and trailer-focused camera tools.
• Fuel efficiency: The test truck is rated at 17 mpg in combined driving, and real-world testing returned 15.4 mpg on one loop and 16.3 mpg over a week.

Which 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in 6 trim levels: Base, SLE, SLT, Elevation, AT4, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and plan to keep things simple. It’s the trim to choose only if you’re comfortable giving up the extra comfort and convenience features found higher up.
• SLE: This is the best-value starting point for most shoppers because it builds on the base truck without pushing you into luxury-trim pricing. It’s the trim that makes the Sierra feel more modern and broadly usable.
• SLT: Choose this if you want a more upscale daily driver with more of the comfort and tech that help the Sierra stand out. It’s a strong middle ground for buyers who want a nicer truck without going all the way to Denali.
• Elevation: This trim adds a customized look on top of the SLE foundation, so it suits you if style matters as much as equipment. It’s the right pick if you want a more distinctive appearance without jumping to the top of the range.
• AT4: This is the off-roading model, so it’s the one to consider if you want a more adventure-oriented Sierra. It’s the trim that best fits buyers looking for a tougher personality.
• Denali: This is the luxury choice, with premium leather, open-pore wood trim, and real aluminum accents. Buy this if you want the most upscale Sierra experience and are willing to pay for it.

The safety-package trims are worth noting: Driver Alert Package 1 is available broadly, while Driver Alert Package 2 is offered on the SLT, AT4, and Denali.

Should I buy a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

Choose the 2019 if:

• 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.47% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The redesigned truck is bigger, more capable, and more useful than before.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $25,942, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $30,876 average.
• It adds standard reversing camera and infotainment equipment.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $32,712, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $30,876 average.
• It adds more everyday usability and utility-minded features.

The bottom line: If you want the most updated version of this truck’s redesign, the 2019 is the primary path to consider. If price matters most, the 2018 can save you money, while the 2020 is worth a look if you want to spend more for a newer take on the Sierra formula.
