Is the 2019 BMW X7 a good car?

Yes — the 2019 BMW X7 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its luxurious feel, spaciousness, comfort, handling, and the wide range of options available in upgraded models. It also fits well if you want a full-size luxury SUV with BMW branding and a dedicated three-row layout for family use.

With 34.5% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 BMW X7 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe it as luxurious, spacious, comfortable, and well suited to families, and they also point to the broad range of options in upgraded models. The expert drive notes that the X7’s inline-six is smooth, linear, and quiet at idle, while the V8 is refined and strong, which supports the impression of a well-sorted powertrain.

BMW also says the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the vehicle has been cared for properly, since a large luxury SUV can become expensive if prior maintenance or repairs were neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 BMW X7?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are not the same as problem-free listings. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the suspension, electronics, and interior features, since this is a heavily optioned luxury SUV and condition can vary a lot from one example to another. Pay extra attention to how the second row and third row function, especially if you plan to use the cabin as a family hauler.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The xDrive40i is the more accessible choice and includes all-wheel drive, an air suspension, 4-zone auto climate control, a panoramic sunroof, adaptive LEDs, and power everything. The xDrive50i adds the V8, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon stereo, multi-contour front seats, and genuine leather, but it costs much more.
• Powertrain: The xDrive40i uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 with 335 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque, while the xDrive50i upgrades to a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 with 456 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. The inline-six is smooth and quiet, while the V8 delivers stronger acceleration and a more forceful growl.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes parking sensors front and rear, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure warning. The Driving Assistance Pro package adds adaptive cruise with lane-keep and lane-change assist, evasive steering, front cross-traffic alert, and BMW’s automated driving system. The Parking Assistance package adds a 360-degree camera and automated parking.
• Infotainment: A 12.3-inch touchscreen handles navigation and the updated iDrive interface, and it includes subscription-based Apple CarPlay. The system can be updated over the air, and the cabin also offers a head-up display and rear-seat entertainment.
• Fuel efficiency: The inline-six returns 20 mpg city and 25 mpg highway, while the V8 returns 15 mpg city, 21 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined.

Which 2019 BMW X7 trim should I buy?

The 2019 BMW X7 is offered in 2 trim levels: xDrive40i and xDrive50i.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive40i: This is the best-value choice if you want the X7’s core strengths without paying for the V8 upgrade. You still get all-wheel drive, air suspension, 4-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, adaptive LEDs, and the 12.3-inch touchscreen, plus the smoother and more efficient inline-six.
• xDrive50i: Choose this if you want the strongest performance and a more upscale standard feel. It adds the twin-turbo V8, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon stereo, multi-contour front seats, and genuine leather, but it is the pricier route.

The Safety content notes that the Driving Assistance Pro package adds adaptive cruise with lane-keep and lane-change assist, evasive steering, and front cross-traffic alert, while the Parking Assistance package adds a 360-degree camera and automated parking.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 BMW X7?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 653 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.73% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 75.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,593, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 BMW X7's resale value?

The current average of $28,593 sits slightly below last year's $33,533.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may also mean future resale gains are more limited if prices keep easing. If you plan to sell later, buying well below the current average matters more than usual because your eventual resale value will depend heavily on how much depreciation has already been absorbed.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 BMW X7 safe?

The 2019 BMW X7 has yet to be tested by the government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes parking sensors front and rear, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure warning. If you want more advanced driver assistance, the Driving Assistance Pro package adds adaptive cruise with lane-keep and lane-change assist, evasive steering, front cross-traffic alert, and BMW’s automated driving system. The Parking Assistance package adds a 360-degree camera and automated parking.

Because of the X7’s increased height and weight, rollover performance is a particular area to watch when you evaluate a used example.

Should I buy a 2019 BMW X7 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.73% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It’s the first model year of BMW’s dedicated three-row flagship SUV, giving you a clear family-focused layout and a strong mix of luxury and space.

The bottom line: If you want the newest X7 design and a strong value opportunity, the 2019 is worth a close look. If you’re especially price-sensitive, shop carefully for the best-condition example and compare it against later model years to see whether added standard equipment justifies the difference.
