Both pair with an 8-speed automatic and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system, which is a strong selling point for confident handling in bad weather. Which 2019 BMW X4 trim should I buy?

The 2019 BMW X4 is offered in 2 trim levels: xDrive30i and M40i.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive30i: This is the best-value trim because it gives you the core X4 experience with standard all-wheel drive, a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and a strong list of comfort and convenience features. It’s the trim to choose if you want the X4’s style and driving character without paying for the more expensive performance hardware.

• M40i: This trim is for you if you want the more performance-oriented version, with a 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder, much stronger acceleration, M Sport brakes, an adaptive M suspension, and additional exterior and interior upgrades. • Deal availability: 39.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 276 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.03% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,651, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 BMW X4's resale value?

The current average of $24,053 sits slightly below last year's $25,872.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned than someone who pays near the top of the range. The X4’s premium image and strong owner satisfaction can help support demand, but resale will still depend heavily on mileage, condition, and equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 BMW X4 safe?

The 2019 BMW X4 earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include a reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, and a full array of front- and side-impact airbags. The available Driving Assistance Package adds blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning, while the Driving Assistance Plus Package adds forward-collision avoidance and active cruise control that can stop and go with traffic. The Parking Assistance Package adds a 360-degree camera, self-parking function, and a 3D camera system.

That means you can build a very well-equipped safety setup if you choose the right example, but base cars leave some of the more advanced driver-assistance features on the table.

Should I buy a 2019 BMW X4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 39.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.03% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 model’s expert evaluation highlights a coupe-inspired crossover with strong driving dynamics, a more usable rear seat than before, and a standout technology score.

The bottom line: The 2019 is the right pick if you want the X4’s distinctive styling, strong road manners, and premium tech at a price that has already softened. If you’re especially price-sensitive, shop carefully for a lower-mileage example near the bottom of the range and prioritize condition and history over options.
