Is the 2019 BMW X4 a good car?

Owners consistently praise the stylish design, excellent performance, and well-equipped interior. They also highlight the driving experience and the advanced features that support safety and comfort.

That lines up with the X4’s role as a coupe-inspired crossover: you’re getting a more style-forward alternative to a traditional SUV, with a stronger emphasis on driving feel than maximum utility. If you want a compact luxury crossover that feels more engaging and upscale than practical-first rivals, that’s the core appeal.

The market also shows 35.2% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 BMW X4 reliable?

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 BMW X4?

At 70.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and any signs of prior repair quality. Because this model is often optioned heavily, you should also confirm that the features you care about are actually present and functioning as expected.

Pay extra attention to condition in the rear seat and cargo area if you plan to use the X4 as a daily family vehicle, since its coupe-like shape can make space feel tighter than a conventional crossover.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The xDrive30i comes decently equipped with 19-inch wheels, fog lights, power-folding heated side mirrors, a panoramic moonroof, a power rear hatch, rain-sensing wipers, 10-way power front seats, a 12-speaker audio system with HD Radio, leather seats, a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, automatic climate control, one-touch power windows, and a 10.25-inch iDrive touchscreen. The M40i adds M Sport brakes, an adaptive M suspension, front and rear anti-roll stabilizer bars, an aerodynamic body kit, Shadowline exterior trim, a hands-free tailgate, 14-way power front seats, SiriusXM satellite radio, and automatic headlights.
• Powertrain: The xDrive30i uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, while the M40i upgrades to a 3.0-liter TwinPower turbocharged 6-cylinder with 355 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. Both use an 8-speed automatic and standard xDrive all-wheel drive, and the xDrive30i is the more efficient choice.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, and a full array of front- and side-impact airbags. The Driving Assistance Package adds blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning, while Driving Assistance Plus adds forward-collision avoidance and active cruise control that can stop and go with traffic. The Parking Assistance Package adds a 360-degree camera, self-parking function, and a 3D camera system.
• Infotainment: The X4 comes standard with a 10.25-inch iDrive touchscreen. It includes Apple CarPlay, real-time traffic information, and gesture control when equipped with the Premium Package. Wireless smartphone charging is also available.
• Fuel efficiency: The xDrive30i returns 22 mpg city, 29 highway, and 25 combined. The M40i returns 20 mpg city, 27 highway, and 23 combined.

Which 2019 BMW X4 trim should I buy?

The 2019 BMW X4 is offered in 2 trim levels: xDrive30i and M40i.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive30i: This is the best-value choice if you want the X4’s core appeal without paying for the performance upgrade. You still get standard xDrive all-wheel drive, the 10.25-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and a strong mix of comfort and driving engagement.
• M40i: Choose this if you want the more performance-focused version. It adds the 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder, much stronger acceleration, upgraded brakes, adaptive suspension, and more aggressive exterior and interior details.

The safety package lineup is a strength, especially because the available driver-assistance and parking features add meaningful everyday convenience.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 BMW X4?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 264 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.95% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,630, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 BMW X4's resale value?

The current average of $23,775 sits slightly below last year's $26,112.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can be helpful if you’re buying now but less favorable if you plan to sell soon. If you own one, the softer pricing means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment.

Well-kept examples with desirable options should hold up better than neglected ones, especially because shoppers in this segment tend to compare features closely. The X4’s distinctive styling and premium image can still support demand, but only if the vehicle presents well.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 BMW X4 safe?

The Parking Assistance Package adds a 360-degree camera, self-parking function, and a 3D camera system.

That combination gives you a strong set of active and passive safety tools, especially if you choose a well-equipped trim or optioned example.

Should I buy a 2019 BMW X4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.95% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 redesign gives the X4 a slightly larger footprint and more interior space, while preserving its coupe-like styling and strong driving dynamics.

The bottom line: If you want the X4’s distinctive style and engaging road manners, the 2019 is the right place to focus. If you’re more price-sensitive, you can still find value here, but you should be especially selective about condition and equipment because the best examples will justify the premium more easily than the rough ones.
