Is the 2018 Volvo XC60 a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Volvo XC60 earns a 4.89/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the luxurious interior, smooth ride, and impressive safety features. Is the 2018 Volvo XC60 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.89/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary also highlights concerns about electronics and potential reliability issues, especially on higher-mileage vehicles. At the same time, owners describe the XC60 as luxurious, smooth, and safe, which suggests the ownership experience can be very rewarding when the vehicle has been maintained well. The expert review also emphasizes the XC60’s strong safety and technology focus, which supports its reputation as a well-engineered luxury crossover.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is that electronics and age-related wear may become more noticeable as mileage climbs, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Volvo XC60?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, because accident-free listings are not the same as problem-free listings. A thorough inspection should focus on electronics, interior condition, and how well the safety and convenience features operate. If the vehicle has higher mileage, pay extra attention to signs of wear that could affect long-term ownership costs.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base Momentum trim includes a standard panoramic sunroof, active safety features, 18-inch wheels, and a 10-way power driver’s seat, while the R-Design adds more technology, more aggressive design, and 19-inch wheels. The Inscription adds unique stitched leather trim, interior chrome accents, and optional driftwood inlays.
• Powertrain: Every XC60 comes with standard all-wheel drive, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. The T5 makes 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, the T6 adds a supercharger for up to 316 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, and the T8 plug-in hybrid combines gas and electric power for 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: Volvo’s City Safety package is standard and can stop the car or steer it away from potential collisions with pedestrians, bikes, and other cars at low speeds, while also helping lessen crash impact at higher speeds. Oncoming Lane Mitigation is new for 2018, and blind-spot detection plus lane-keep assist are optional as part of the Vision package.
• Infotainment: Every XC60 comes with a 9-inch Sensus touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. The system is highly customizable, but the menu structure can be confusing and distracting to use while driving.
• Fuel efficiency: The T8 plug-in hybrid can travel up to 17 miles on electric power alone and is supposed to return a combined 26 mpg. The T6 Momentum with the Convenience Package is described as getting around 23 mpg combined.

Which 2018 Volvo XC60 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Volvo XC60 is offered in 3 trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, Inscription.

Here's the short version:

• Momentum: This is the best-value trim if you want the core XC60 experience without stretching too far. You get the standard panoramic sunroof, active safety features, 18-inch wheels, and a 10-way power driver’s seat, which makes it the most sensible starting point.
• R-Design: Choose this if you want more technology and a sportier look. It adds more aggressive design and 19-inch wheels, so it suits you if style matters and you want a step up from the base setup.
• Inscription: This is the most upscale choice, with unique stitched leather trim, interior chrome accents, and optional driftwood inlays. It’s the trim to consider if you want the most premium cabin atmosphere.

Blind-spot detection and lane-keep assist are optional and must be ordered as part of the Vision package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Volvo XC60?

It looks like a buyer’s market, with meaningful deal availability and a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

• Deal availability: 40.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 694 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.15% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 75.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,604, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Volvo XC60's resale value?

The current average of $17,672 sits slightly below last year's $19,453.

That decline suggests the XC60 has already moved through a meaningful portion of its depreciation curve, which can be helpful if you’re buying now and planning to sell later. For a future seller, the current pricing environment means you may not see a quick rebound unless market demand strengthens. Still, a well-kept XC60 with strong equipment and clean history should remain appealing to shoppers who want a distinctive luxury crossover.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.89/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Volvo XC60 safe?

The 2018 Volvo XC60 earns an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick + rating.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Volvo’s City Safety package is standard and can stop the car or steer it away from potential collisions with pedestrians, bikes, and other cars at low speeds, while also helping lessen crash impact at higher speeds. New for 2018 is Oncoming Lane Mitigation, which can steer you back on track if you drift into the path of an oncoming vehicle. Blind-spot detection and lane-keep assist are optional through the Vision package, and Pilot Assist II can steer, keep the car between lane lines, and adjust speed to match traffic.

One caveat is that Pilot Assist II still requires you to keep your hands on the wheel, and it can have trouble detecting faded lane lines and cars that cut you off in traffic.

Should I buy a 2018 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 40.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.15% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.89/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model is a thoroughly redesigned XC60 with an all-new platform, a different look and feel, and an optional plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

The bottom line: If you want the newer-generation XC60 with the strongest mix of style, safety, and technology, the 2018 is the right target. If you’re more price-sensitive, focus on the listings that sit near the low end of the range and have clean history reports, because that’s where the best value is most likely to show up.
