CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Toyota 4Runner

Summary
With 123 currently listed for sale near Tacoma, WA and an average price of $33,420, 34.1% of 2018 Toyota 4Runners for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Toyota 4Runner 4.54 / 5 stars.
92.7% of 2018 4Runner models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Toyota 4Runner stands out as a midsize SUV that stays true to its off-road roots while still offering the kind of everyday comfort many buyers want. Toyota’s long-running formula gives it body-on-frame construction, and the 4Runner’s appeal is rooted in that rugged character rather than in chasing the car-based crossover trend. It is also known for strong resale value and reliability, which helps explain why it remains a popular used choice.
For 2018, the 4Runner’s strengths are its all-terrain capability and its reputation for durability. At the same time, it is not the most polished SUV on the road: poor on-road handling and fuel economy are listed drawbacks, and 4WD is not standard. That mix makes it especially appealing to shoppers who care more about toughness and long-term dependability than about refinement.
Owner feedback lines up with that character. Drivers praise the 2018 Toyota 4Runner for its off-road ability, reliability, style, and durability, while some wish it had more modern features such as keyless start and additional safety options.

Always an excellent vehicle. Hands down unbeatable in the snow and one of the, by far, best 4x4 systems on the planet. Highly recommend trying one out. The wheels will fall off before the engine or transmission quits... just sayin..

This is a very nice vehicle, the one thing I wish this car did have, was a keyless start, but that’s not a deal breaker

| Average Price a Year Ago | $30,174 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.64% |
Prices have softened 2.64% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,717 listings available, which suggests you have a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $28,210.50, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2018 Toyota 4Runner a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.54/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction.
Drivers most often praise its off-road capability, reliability, style, and durability. That lines up well with the model’s rugged, body-on-frame character and its appeal to shoppers who want capability and longevity more than flash. It also fits buyers who value everyday usability in an SUV that still feels purpose-built for tougher terrain.
With 31.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Toyota 4Runner reliable?
Owners rate it 4.54/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers repeatedly describe it as reliable and durable, and many also highlight its trouble-free ownership experience and confidence in its long-term dependability. That kind of feedback matters if you want a used SUV you can count on for years rather than one that simply feels nice on a test drive.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about owner sentiment and more about finding a well-kept example with a clean history and consistent maintenance.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Toyota 4Runner?
At 60.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the SUV has seen off-road use or higher mileage. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear, and whether the vehicle has been maintained consistently.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Toyota 4Runner?
This looks like a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting deep discounts on every listing.

- Inventory: There are 1,717 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.64% compared with last year.

What is the 2018 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?
The current average of $29,377 sits slightly below last year's $30,174.
That price movement suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy with less pressure today. For a future seller, the current softness means your resale outcome will depend more on condition, mileage, and history than on broad market momentum alone. Well-kept examples should still hold appeal because shoppers continue to value this model’s durability and capability.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.54/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.64% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.54/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $32,093, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $29,377 average.
- It adds a more modern-feeling daily driving experience.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2018 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year and a slightly more modern feel, the 2019 is the better secondary path.
