CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Toyota 4Runner

Summary
With 135 currently listed for sale near Little Rock, AR and an average price of $27,555.00, 19.3% of 2018 Toyota 4Runners for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Toyota 4Runner 4.54 / 5 stars.
63.0% of 2018 4Runner models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Toyota 4Runner stands out because it stays true to the rugged, body-on-frame formula that has long defined the model. In a segment where many midsize SUVs moved toward car-based construction, the 4Runner kept its off-road-ready character while still offering the kind of everyday usability that has helped it remain popular. Its appeal is rooted in durability, strong resale value, and genuine all-terrain ability, which make it especially attractive to buyers who care more about capability and longevity than flash.
By 2018, the 4Runner had already accumulated a number of useful updates over the years, including standard Toyota Safety Sense-P, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an upgraded infotainment system with a larger touchscreen. It also offered features such as passive entry and push-button start, plus available conveniences like a 360-degree camera on some trims. Those additions helped modernize the SUV without changing its basic personality, and that balance is a big part of its appeal.
At the same time, the 2018 4Runner still carried some familiar drawbacks. Its on-road handling was not a strength, fuel economy was a weak point, and 4WD was not standard. Even so, for shoppers who want a dependable SUV with real off-road credibility and a reputation for holding its value, the 2018 Toyota 4Runner remains distinctive.

Always an excellent vehicle. Hands down unbeatable in the snow and one of the, by far, best 4x4 systems on the planet. Highly recommend trying one out. The wheels will fall off before the engine or transmission quits... just sayin..

This is a very nice vehicle, the one thing I wish this car did have, was a keyless start, but that’s not a deal breaker

Drivers consistently praise its off-road capability, reliability, style, and durability, while the main tradeoffs are its outdated design and average fuel economy. If you want an SUV that emphasizes ruggedness and long-term appeal over flash, the 2018 4Runner fits that use case well. With 31.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Toyota 4Runner reliable?
Owners rate it 4.54/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers also describe it as reliable, durable, and dependable, with praise that points to trouble-free ownership and confidence over the long haul. That kind of feedback matters if you plan to keep your used SUV for years, because it suggests lower ownership anxiety and stronger confidence in the vehicle’s staying power. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about finding one that has been maintained well.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Toyota 4Runner?
At 61.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can catch hidden body, suspension, or wear-related issues. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and signs of hard use, since this model’s appeal often depends on how well it has been cared for. If a listing has a clean history and checks out mechanically, it deserves extra attention.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Toyota 4Runner?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient and compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,721 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.94% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $28,210.15, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?
The current average of $29,126 sits slightly below last year's $30,320.
That softer pricing suggests buyers have a bit more leverage today than they did a year ago, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the 4Runner’s value remains supported, but the market is not pushing prices upward right now. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you improve your odds of preserving value later.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.54/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.94% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.54/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $31,949, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $29,126 average.
- It adds a more modern-feeling daily driving experience with stronger comfort and technology appeal.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2018 is the smarter starting point because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction. If you can stretch your budget and want the newer-year appeal, the 2019 is the better secondary path for price-sensitive buyers who still want this SUV’s core strengths.
