Summary
With 333 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,565, 33.0% of 2018 Tesla Model S listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Tesla Model S 4.48 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2018 Tesla Model S stands out as one of the defining electric cars of its era because it combines long-range capability, advanced technology, and sports car-style acceleration in a luxury sedan package. By 2018, the Model S had been simplified to standard all-wheel drive and two battery pack options, 75- and 100-kWh, and Tesla also started to limit its free supercharging to 400 kWh per year. That same year brought quiet tech upgrades with faster screen processing and better navigation, which helped keep the car feeling current despite its age.
What makes the 2018 Model S especially appealing is how much of its identity still centers on innovation. The car’s minimalist cabin, large touchscreen interface, and software-driven approach were part of what made the Model S feel futuristic from the start, and the 2018 model still benefits from that basic formula. Buyers also get the advantages of Tesla’s over-the-air updates, which kept the car competitive over time, along with the strong performance and range that helped establish the Model S as a benchmark in the EV market.
There are tradeoffs, though. The Model S is not praised for build quality, and it lacks Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Even so, for shoppers who want a used electric sedan with standout acceleration, advanced features, and a spacious, tech-forward feel, the 2018 Tesla Model S remains a distinctive choice.

Excited about this car. It feels so futuristic and super luxurious. Hard to know what you’re missing if you’ve never experienced it firsthand… but I know now. It’s smooth, calm, and simple. The car is extremely powerful and so utilitarian. Very nice looking and intuitive too. Can’t say enough good things about it. People may say bad stuff about Tesla, but that’s probably all coming from the outside and not people who actually own these cars.

This is a fantastic car, once you drive a Tesla Model S, you dont want to drive anything else. It is powerful, comfortable and beautiful. You can trust this car even with a high mileage. You have to test drive to make sure there no issue with suspension but the rest is nothing to worry about. Its a reliable car very impressive

Acceleration in the performance version is something all sports car enthusiasts will appreciate and love, build quality unfortunately is not so spectacular. If not for the insane speed, I would have given it 2 of 5 stars.

User feedback points to a car that many owners find dependable over time, especially when it comes to the core driving experience and the way Tesla’s software-driven features keep the car feeling current. The strongest reliability-related takeaway is that owners often describe the car as something they can count on for standout performance and advanced tech. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been well cared for, since condition matters a lot on a vehicle with this kind of technology and premium hardware.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Tesla Model S?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should prioritize a full history report and confirm the car’s accident record before you move forward. A careful inspection should focus on overall condition, since owner feedback points to concerns around build quality and interior luxury. It also makes sense to pay close attention to how the car presents in person, because a tech-heavy luxury EV can hide expensive issues if you skip the inspection step.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Tesla Model S?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 327 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 76.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,578, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Tesla Model S's resale value?
The current average of $23,593 sits slightly below last year's $23,595.
That small decline suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which can help future sellers because pricing expectations stay predictable. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you’re less likely to face a sharp value drop driven by market swings. The combination of steady pricing and strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it’s time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Tesla Model S or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2018 Model S makes sense if you want a used Tesla with strong owner satisfaction, steady pricing, and a solid pool of accident-free listings to shop from. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on whichever one gives you the best combination of condition, history, and asking price.
