Summary
With 326 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,688, 35.3% of 2018 Tesla Model S listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Tesla Model S 4.48 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2018 Tesla Model S stands out as one of the defining electric cars of its era because it combines long-range capability, advanced technology, and sports car-style acceleration in a luxury sedan package. By 2018, the Model S had been simplified to standard all-wheel drive and two battery pack options, 75- and 100-kWh, and Tesla also started to limit its free supercharging to 400 kWh per year. That same year brought quiet tech upgrades with faster screen processing and better navigation, which helped keep the car feeling current despite its age.
What makes the 2018 Model S especially appealing is how much of its identity still centers on innovation. The car’s minimalist cabin, large touchscreen interface, and software-driven approach were part of what made the Model S feel futuristic from the start, and the 2018 model still benefits from that basic formula. Buyers also get the advantages of Tesla’s over-the-air updates, which kept the car competitive over time, along with the strong performance and range that helped establish the Model S as a benchmark in the EV market.
There are tradeoffs, though. The Model S is not praised for build quality, and it lacks Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Even so, for shoppers who want a used electric sedan with standout acceleration, advanced features, and a spacious, tech-forward feel, the 2018 Tesla Model S remains a distinctive choice.

Excited about this car. It feels so futuristic and super luxurious. Hard to know what you’re missing if you’ve never experienced it firsthand… but I know now. It’s smooth, calm, and simple. The car is extremely powerful and so utilitarian. Very nice looking and intuitive too. Can’t say enough good things about it. People may say bad stuff about Tesla, but that’s probably all coming from the outside and not people who actually own these cars.

This is a fantastic car, once you drive a Tesla Model S, you dont want to drive anything else. It is powerful, comfortable and beautiful. You can trust this car even with a high mileage. You have to test drive to make sure there no issue with suspension but the rest is nothing to worry about. Its a reliable car very impressive

Acceleration in the performance version is something all sports car enthusiasts will appreciate and love, build quality unfortunately is not so spectacular. If not for the insane speed, I would have given it 2 of 5 stars.

The owner feedback points to a car that many drivers feel good about living with over time, especially because of its dependable performance and innovative features. The same feedback also suggests that long-term ownership can come with some tradeoffs, so you should expect to evaluate condition carefully before buying. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the driving experience and more about how well the car has been maintained and preserved.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Tesla Model S?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should start with a history report so you can confirm accident status and spot any red flags before you go further. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of the car’s condition, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings with similar prices. Focus on overall wear, signs of prior damage, and whether the vehicle presents as well as the listing suggests.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Tesla Model S?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 331 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 76.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,578, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Tesla Model S's resale value?
The current average of $23,623 sits slightly below last year's $23,814.
That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable rather than sharply weakening, which is helpful if you plan to resell later. A steady price pattern can make it easier to estimate future value, especially when demand stays consistent for a model with strong performance and tech appeal. If you buy well and keep the car in good condition, you should have a reasonable path to preserving value.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.48/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Tesla Model S or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.48/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2018 is a strong pick if you want a used Model S with stable pricing, solid owner satisfaction, and enough inventory to shop carefully. If you’re more price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the listings that land closest to the low end of the market range.
