CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Subaru Crosstrek
overall

Summary
With 1,833 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,179, 32.4% of 2018 Subaru Crosstreks for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek 4.2 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
65.6% of 2018 Crosstrek models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek stands out by turning the usual crossover formula around. Rather than relying on style alone, it backs up its outdoorsy image with versatility and capability. Built from the Impreza 5-door, it adds rugged body cladding and 8.7 inches of ground clearance, giving it a more durable, high-riding character than many small crossovers.
That focus on practicality is a big part of its appeal. Subaru’s approach emphasizes safety and efficiency, and the Crosstrek fits that philosophy while still feeling genuinely suited to active use. It is also the first full redesign for the model, which means it represents an evolution of the original idea rather than a complete departure from it.
Buyers drawn to the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek are likely to appreciate its solid feel, safety features, and smooth driving experience. At the same time, some owners note that the engine can feel underpowered and that the vehicle may seem overpriced compared with other options in its class.

The over all experience of the vehicle was great I was able to try it out for a week while my wrx was in the shop. All the leading edge features that one could ask for, all accessible from the steering wheel. The lane correction feature was interesting great for those tiresome late night drives or after a hard days work. You can turn it off and on anytime. One day I will splurge for a model like this.

I believe the car is overpriced and , in my opinion, not a great value. It is, however a nice car and popular in the Pensacola area.

I love it! I got the limited with every option. It is so solid and safe! It is a great height and drives smooth. The eyesight system is amazing! I looked at the outback too, but didnt absolutely need the extra length. This car is like an outback lite, and it was perfect for me.

A quality, dependable car but the 2.0 liter is very underpowered. If youre okay with a car that doesnt have much pep, it will work for you.

Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek reliable?
Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The expert evaluation also emphasizes Subaru’s practical, durable approach, including a composed chassis and an improvement in the CVT compared with the previous generation. The cost-effectiveness notes reinforce that the Crosstrek backs up its image with substance rather than gimmicks.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the drivetrain and overall condition match the car’s reputation, especially if the vehicle has seen hard use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Subaru Crosstrek?
At 66% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been used for commuting in rough weather or for outdoor activities. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear in the interior and cargo area, and whether the equipment level matches the trim you’re considering. If you want the best value, compare the feature set carefully so you do not overpay for a lower-spec example.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Base trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, integrated roof rails, manual seats, power windows, a 60/40 split-fold rear bench, and the 6.5-inch StarLink infotainment system, while the Premium adds fog lights, heated front seats, a windshield-wiper deicer, heated side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cloth seats with orange stitching, auto on/off headlights, and a six-speaker stereo. The Limited adds leather seats, automatic climate control, an 8-inch StarLink screen, 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry with push-button start, and LED headlights that turn with the steering wheel.
- Powertrain: The Crosstrek uses a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT and all-wheel drive. The CVT is standard on the Limited and available on the lower trims, and it includes paddle shifters when equipped on the higher-spec setup.
- Safety package: EyeSight is the available driver-assistance suite, and it brings forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and sway warning. Available extras include automatic high beams, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking.
- Infotainment: Base and Premium trims use a 6.5-inch StarLink touchscreen, while the Limited gets an 8-inch screen. The system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and it includes shortcut-friendly menus for easier daily use.
- Fuel efficiency: With the manual transmission, fuel economy is 23 mpg city, 29 highway, and 25 combined. With the CVT, it improves to 29 city, 33 highway, and 29 combined.
Which 2018 Subaru Crosstrek trim should I buy?
The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek is offered in 3 trim levels: Base, Premium, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base: This is the simplest way into the Crosstrek, and it gives you the core rugged look, roof rails, and standard all-wheel-drive hardware without much extra equipment. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and plan to add only the essentials.
- Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the comfort and convenience upgrades that make daily use easier, including heated front seats, fog lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a better stereo. If you want the sweet spot between price and livability, this is the one to target.
- Limited: This trim is the right pick if you want the most upscale Crosstrek experience, with leather seats, automatic climate control, the larger 8-inch screen, keyless entry with push-button start, and LED headlights. It also gets the standard CVT and the most complete equipment list.
EyeSight is available, and the safety content also notes optional blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and reverse automatic braking.

What is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek's resale value?
The current average of $16,199 sits slightly below last year's $16,858.
That softer pricing suggests the model has become a bit easier to buy than it was a year ago, which can help you if you are shopping now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment level rather than on broad market momentum alone. Well-kept examples with the right features should still draw interest because the Crosstrek’s practical reputation remains a strong selling point.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 66% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.91% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 model is the first full redesign, with a stronger emphasis on practicality, safety, and efficiency.
The bottom line: The 2018 Crosstrek is the right choice if you want the redesigned version with strong practicality and a market that still offers some negotiating room. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than the newest badge alone.
