Why it stands out
The 2018 Nissan Kicks stands out as a crossover for shoppers who do not need off-road ability or a sporty driving character, yet still want a vehicle that is genuinely useful. It is positioned as a more practical alternative to the Juke, and Nissan’s approach with the all-new Kicks is to lean into the crossover formula rather than chase athleticism. That makes it appealing to buyers who care more about everyday usefulness than performance.
Its biggest strength is that it includes features aimed at the daily commuter, which helps explain why it feels more useful than the Juke. The Kicks also earns praise for value, spaciousness, comfort, and good gas mileage, and owners commonly appreciate conveniences such as a backup camera and keyless entry. At the same time, it is not the choice for drivers who want all-wheel drive, and some owners note that certain expected interior touches are missing.

I was looking for a vehicle with good gas mileage. The kicks gets great mileage. But I was super surprised the little car is very comfortable for me Im a heavy set guy with bad knees and I was shocked just how comfortable it really is plus all of the safety features are a major bonus I could not be happier with the car and it is quite peppy for a four cylinder vehicle

Great vehicle with a few recommendations. Trunk latch inside, armrest on passenger seat would complete this vehicle. Would expect the SV model to have these features over the S model.
2018 Nissan Kicks Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2018 Nissan Kicks prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2018 Nissan Kicks cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,360 |
| Year-Round Low | $11,693.85 |
| Year-Round High | $13,227.92 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $13,231 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.58% |
Prices have softened 6.58% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 462 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $11,693.85, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2018 Nissan Kicks a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Nissan Kicks earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.
Drivers consistently praise its value, spaciousness, and comfort, and they also like conveniences such as the backup camera and keyless entry. The overview points to a crossover that is built around everyday usefulness rather than sporty driving, which fits shoppers who care more about practicality than performance. That combination makes it especially appealing if you want a budget-friendly commuter with useful features and good gas mileage.
With 29.9% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.
Is the 2018 Nissan Kicks reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a vehicle that feels value-focused, comfortable, and impressive on gas mileage, which are all traits that usually matter in long-term ownership. The expert evaluation also frames it as a solid choice for daily commuting on the cheap, with a practical setup that suits city and suburban use. The maintenance-friendly ownership picture is helped by its straightforward, commuter-oriented design.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about complexity and more about whether the car has been cared for consistently and still feels tight after years of daily use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Nissan Kicks?
At 71.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually strong. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and any evidence that the car has been used hard in city traffic or parking-heavy environments. Because this model is built around value and commuting, condition matters a lot more than cosmetic extras.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base S comes with 16-inch steel wheels with covers, roof rails, a rear window wiper, automatic headlights, cloth seats, a 6-way manual driver’s seat, a 4-way manual front passenger seat, a 60/40 split-fold rear seat, Bluetooth connectivity, and a standard 7-inch touchscreen. The SV adds 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, push-button start, and a partially digital instrument panel. The SR adds fog lights, LED low beams, a rear spoiler, a dark satin chrome grille accent, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a surround-view camera.
- Powertrain: It uses a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with 125 horsepower and 115 pound-feet of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission and standard front-wheel drive. It is described as underpowered, but it can feel decent around town and returns good fuel economy.
- Safety package: Automatic emergency braking is standard on every trim. The SV adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the SR adds a surround-view camera. The base trim misses those extra driver-assistance features.
- Infotainment: The standard system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with a straightforward layout and physical buttons. Siri Eyes Free is standard, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are added on the SV and SR. There is no over-the-air update capability mentioned.
- Fuel efficiency: EPA estimates are 31 mpg city, 36 highway, and 33 combined. In testing, it returned 33.6 mpg.
Which 2018 Nissan Kicks trim should I buy?
The 2018 Nissan Kicks is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, and SR.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The S is the most stripped-down version, so you give up the extra convenience and visual upgrades found higher up the range. It still includes automatic emergency braking, but it lacks the added driver-assistance features and nicer cabin touches of the upper trims.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SV is the best value if you want the biggest jump in everyday usability. It adds push-button start, a partially digital instrument panel, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Premium/top trim: The SR adds the most upscale feel with fog lights, LED low beams, a rear spoiler, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a surround-view camera. If you want the most features, this is the one to target.
- Off-road trim: This model is not aimed at off-road use, and the lack of all-wheel drive is a real limitation for buyers who need winter traction or rough-weather capability.
Automatic emergency braking is standard across the lineup, while blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are added on the SV and SR.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Nissan Kicks?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 462 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.58% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 71.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,693.85, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Nissan Kicks's resale value?
The current average of $12,360 sits slightly below last year's $13,231.
That price movement suggests the model has softened enough to help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future sellers may face some pressure if the market stays value-driven. Because the Kicks is positioned around affordability and practicality, resale tends to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and feature content. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold buyer interest better than rougher, lower-spec listings.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Nissan Kicks safe?
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
The Kicks comes standard with front and side airbags, a reversing camera, and the Easy-Fill Tire Alert system. Automatic emergency braking is also standard on every trim, which gives you an important baseline safety feature even on the least expensive version. The SV adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the SR adds a surround-view camera for easier parking and low-speed maneuvering.
That said, you should pay close attention to trim differences if safety tech matters to you, because the base model misses the extra driver-assistance features found higher up the range.
Should I buy a 2018 Nissan Kicks or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
