CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS

Summary
With 957 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,007.00, 34.2% of 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLSs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS 4.8 / 5 stars.
64.4% of 2018 GLS models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS stands out as a large, luxury three-row SUV that emphasizes comfort, space, and a premium feel. It offers seating for six or seven people and up to 93.8 cubic feet of cargo space, while standard 4Matic all-wheel drive and Airmatic air suspension help give it the kind of composed ride expected from a Mercedes. For 2018, Mercedes-Benz also dropped the GLS350d from the lineup, leaving the GLS450 as the entry point and giving that model a new wheel design.
What makes the 2018 GLS especially distinctive is how much equipment it packed in, even by luxury-SUV standards. The GLS450 came with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 making 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, along with heated front seats, MB-Tex upholstery, a sunroof, power-folding third-row seats, an eight-inch touchscreen, and five years of mbrace Connect apps and remote connectivity. The GLS550 added a 4.7-liter twin-turbo V8 with 449 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, plus features such as soft-close doors, three-zone climate control, front multicontour seats with cooling, navigation with real-time traffic and SiriusXM, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Harman/Kardon surround sound system. The AMG GLS63 pushed performance further with a hand-built 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 577 hp and 561 lb-ft of torque, along with AMG Performance all-wheel drive and Active Curve System for flatter cornering.
Even with its strengths, the 2018 GLS is not the most spacious or most modern-feeling option in Mercedes-Benz’s broader lineup, and its third-row access is a known drawback. Still, it appeals to buyers who want a full-size-feeling family SUV with genuine luxury touches, strong power, and a long list of standard and available features. Owners also tend to praise its comfort, performance, and electronic features, which reinforces the GLS’s appeal as a refined, well-equipped three-row SUV.

Unbelievable vehicle. Has every electronic feature you can imagine, plus a few you cant. Driving it is like floating on a magic carpet. Way more power than I need. Most comfortable car Ive ever owned. All in all I couldnt be happier.

The only improvements would be to add a phone charger somewhere other than just in the storeage console.. I would also prefer a roach screen for the navigation system. Other than those additions, I love it!

Thought it would have been more spacious, but the volume was added behind the driver’s seat. The front of the vehicle is the size of a GLE Class, 5 passenger vehicle.

Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its luxury features, comfort, and performance, and they also like the power delivery and the electronic features that improve the driving experience. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a large luxury three-row SUV with seating for six or seven people and a premium feel. 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also emphasizes that the GLS feels dependable in daily use, with comfort and performance that owners can count on over time. That kind of response matters if you want a used luxury SUV that should feel reassuring rather than fragile. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the vehicle has been maintained well enough to preserve that strong ownership experience.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS?
At 64.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage or repeated claims. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on a luxury SUV where comfort, electronics, and suspension condition can affect ownership costs. Focus your attention on overall condition, signs of wear, and whether the vehicle has been maintained consistently.

What is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS's resale value?
The current average of $21,827 sits slightly below last year's $24,951.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. Strong examples should hold up better than average ones because buyers in this segment tend to reward well-kept luxury SUVs.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 64.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.52% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the 2018 GLS, it makes the most sense as the primary choice when you value strong owner satisfaction, luxury comfort, and a market that has become more buyer-friendly. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can use the softened pricing and deal availability to focus on the cleanest, best-maintained examples rather than stretching for a newer alternative.
