The 2018 Mercedes E300 W213 is a very good value in the used car market. Find one with good maintenance history and not abused. The turbocharged four cylinder engine provides enough power for daily driving, is economical, and the car is very comfortable for long trips.

Great engine and transmission. Great immediate power. Nice ride and drive, feedback from the suspension and steering. Very nice interior and every set up. Except there is moderate rattle noise from the dash which I believe can be fixed by padding the inside and the edges of the dash. Other than that, a perfect daily.

Yes — the 4.76/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 8.00/10. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, luxurious interior, powerful performance, advanced features, and elegant styling. With 33.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.76/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with praise centered on the smooth ride, luxurious interior, and powerful performance. It also suggests the car is one you can count on for a refined ownership experience, though some owners mention wear-and-tear concerns over time. The expert review reinforces that sense of calm, composed driving, describing the car as quiet, stable, and easy to live with.
Mercedes also includes a semi-autonomous cruise control system and other driver-assistance features that support confidence on the road. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is the potential for higher maintenance costs after warranty coverage ends.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
At 59.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars with higher mileage or visible cosmetic wear. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, brake condition, and any warning lights or electronic glitches. Because this model leans heavily on advanced systems, you’ll want to confirm that the comfort, safety, and infotainment features all work as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin is defined by high-end materials, giant high-resolution screens, LED mood lighting in 64 colors, and a luxury-focused layout. The Luxury Line changes the exterior look with a classic thin-lined grille and standing hood ornament, while the sport styling takes a more aggressive approach.
- Powertrain: The E300 uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, while the E400 uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. The 4-cylinder is efficient but can feel underpowered in this heavier car, while the V6 is the stronger all-around choice.
- Safety package: Mercedes includes Car-to-X Communication, Pre-Safe Sound, automatic braking, crosswind mitigation, steering assist around obstacles, and adaptive cruise control that can respond to changing speed limits. Some of these features are optional, and many are tied to the expensive Premium 3 package.
- Infotainment: The tech suite includes Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a built-in web browser, a head-up display, configurable instrument displays, and a semi-autonomous system that can steer, throttle, and brake the car.
- Fuel efficiency: The E300 RWD is EPA-rated at 22 mpg city and 30 highway, while the E300 4Matic is rated at 21/29. The E400 coupe is rated at 20/26, and the E400 4Matic wagon is rated at 19/25. In testing, the E300 averaged 29 mpg over 460 mostly highway miles, and the E400 averaged 23 mpg over 600 miles.
Which 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: E300 sedan, E300 4Matic sedan, E400 sedan, E400 4Matic coupe.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The E300 sedan gives you the core luxury experience, but you’ll miss some of the richer exterior and cabin touches that make the car feel especially upscale. Many of the most advanced safety and semi-autonomous features are tied to the costly Premium 3 package.
- Sweet-spot trim: The E300 4Matic sedan is the best value if you want all-weather traction without jumping to the pricier V6 models. It keeps the mainstream sedan format while adding AWD for broader usability.
- Premium/top trim: The E400 sedan is the strongest all-around choice because the V6 is quieter, more confident for passing, and better suited to the E-Class’s luxury mission. It delivers the most satisfying balance of power and refinement.
- Off-road trim: The E400 4Matic wagon is worth a look if you want utility, but it is less relevant if you’re shopping for a typical daily driver.
The safety package is impressive, but many of the most desirable features are optional rather than standard.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile opportunities.
- Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,431 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.18% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 59.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $23,351.58, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $23,340 sits slightly below last year's $25,699.
That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the range and keep the car in strong condition, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it’s time to sell. The broad appeal of the E-Class’s luxury, technology, and comfort should continue to support demand among used buyers.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.76/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
The E-Class earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and for rollover vulnerability. It is also a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS with the highest ratings in five crash tests, headlights, and collision-avoidance systems.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Mercedes equips the E-Class with Car-to-X Communication, Pre-Safe Sound, automatic braking, crosswind mitigation, steering and brake intervention around obstacles, and adaptive cruise control that can react to changing speed limits. Some safety features are optional, and many are bundled into the Premium 3 package. The overall safety picture is excellent, but the packaging means you should verify exactly which driver-assistance features are present on the specific car you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.18% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.76/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert review highlights exceptional technology and safety, with a luxury-first driving experience that stands out even among premium rivals.
The bottom line: If you want a used E-Class with strong tech, top-tier safety, and a softer price than last year, the 2018 model is a compelling target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can shop aggressively and focus on well-kept examples with clean history and the right option packages.
