CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Jeep Wrangler
overall

Summary
With 663 currently listed for sale near Birmingham, AL and an average price of $21,669.00, 35.0% of 2018 Jeep Wranglers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Jeep Wrangler 4.54 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
78.6% of 2018 Wrangler models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler stands out because it was thoroughly rebooted while still staying true to the familiar Wrangler formula. The review describes it as a sun-loving, rock-hopping, mud-caked happy face on four wheels, and says that after 10 years it was finally all-new for 2018. It also notes that the Wrangler has a fanatical and fiercely loyal following, which helps explain why this redesign mattered so much to buyers.
What makes the 2018 Jeep Wrangler especially distinctive is that its performance, practicality, and technology were thoroughly improved, even though it remained a solid-axle, body-on-frame SUV. The review also points out that the Wrangler Unlimited had no direct competitors aside from the Toyota 4Runner. Owner feedback reinforces the appeal of the 2018 model’s pep, handling, and iconic design, along with drivability improvements and remote start. At the same time, some owners wanted more modern amenities such as power windows, heated seats, and updated sound systems, and a few raised concerns about comfort, cabin smells, and pricing.

The Jeep is great as they always are but I notice that since FMC and Stellantis took over, the build quality has gone down and the maintenance and repair cost rose. This is not my first jeep and that's where I get my opinions

How much does the 2018 Jeep Wrangler cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $21,675 |
| Year-Round Low | $21,679.89 |
| Year-Round High | $23,958.35 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,957 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.53% |
Prices have softened 9.53% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 7,721 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $21,679.89, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2018 Jeep Wrangler a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Jeep Wrangler earns a 4.54/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.
Owners consistently praise its pep, handling, and iconic design, and they also call out drivability improvements and remote start. The overview points to a vehicle that stays true to the Wrangler formula while improving performance, practicality, and technology, which helps explain why it appeals to buyers who want a distinctive SUV with real personality.
With 28.3% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively if you want the right combination of condition and price.
Is the 2018 Jeep Wrangler reliable?
Owners rate it 4.54/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with praise centered on pep, handling, iconic design, and drivability improvements. That kind of feedback suggests you’re looking at a model that many owners feel good about living with over time, even if they still want more modern amenities.
The expert review also emphasizes that the Wrangler’s core appeal is its improved performance and practicality, which supports the idea that it can be a satisfying long-term ownership choice if you value its character. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the engine of ownership and more about whether the specific truck has been cared for well enough to match its rugged reputation.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Jeep Wrangler?
At 72.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body condition, panel fit, and signs of prior repair. Because this model’s appeal is tied to its rugged use case, you’ll want to pay extra attention to how well the truck has been maintained and whether any off-road wear shows up in the cabin, suspension, or exterior hardware.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Sahara adds street-tuned touches like step rails, silver-painted exterior accents, and 18-inch wheels, while the base Sport uses a simpler setup and the Rubicon rides on knobbier tires with smaller 17-inch rims.
- Powertrain: The 3.6-liter V6 is paired with a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic, and a turbocharged 2.0-liter four with eTorque is also offered with the best fuel economy in the lineup.
- Safety package: The available driver-assistance equipment is limited to a backup camera, rear parking sensors, and blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alerts.
- Infotainment: The Sport uses a five-inch touchscreen, while the Sport S and Sahara upgrade to a seven-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM; the available 8.4-inch system adds navigation, a seven-inch gauge display, voice controls, 4G WiFi, an onboard owner’s manual, and seven USB ports.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged 2.0-liter four is rated at 22 mpg city and 24 mpg highway, while the manual V6 is rated at 17 mpg city and 23 mpg highway.
Which 2018 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, Rubicon.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the simplest entry point, and it makes sense if you want the Wrangler experience at the lowest starting price and plan to add only the equipment you truly need.
- Sport S: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the more usable seven-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM, making daily driving easier without jumping too far up the price ladder.
- Sahara: This is the right pick if you want a more polished street-focused setup, including step rails, silver-painted accents, 18-inch wheels, and the available comfort and tech upgrades that make the Wrangler easier to live with.
- Rubicon: This is the trim to choose if you want the most serious off-road hardware, including beefier Rock-Trac four-wheel drive, locking front and rear Dana 44 axles, and an electronically disconnecting front sway bar.
The safety content also notes that driver-assistance equipment is limited overall, so even higher trims do not turn this into a heavily equipped safety-first SUV.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Jeep Wrangler?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.
- Deal availability: 28.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 7,721 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.53% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 72.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,679.89, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?
The current average of $21,675 sits slightly below last year's $23,957.
That price movement suggests the market has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help if you buy now and plan to sell later. Because the Wrangler tends to hold demand well, a softer entry price can improve your odds of limiting future loss if you choose a clean, well-kept example.
The current pricing also reflects strong ongoing interest in the model, especially among buyers who want its distinctive design and off-road capability. If you buy carefully, the Wrangler’s broad appeal can help support resale strength when it’s your turn to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.54/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Jeep Wrangler safe?
The Wrangler scored just three stars and two stars for driver and passenger in the NHTSA frontal crash test that was performed on the related 2018 JK, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rated a 2017 Wrangler Unlimited as Good in small and moderate overlap front crash tests but Marginal in side-impact tests.
It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
The safety equipment is limited to a backup camera, rear parking sensors, and blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alerts. The review also notes that no driver assists are available beyond those items, and that the Wrangler is the only new car on sale without head curtain airbags.
That means you should treat safety as a real tradeoff here. If you want the Wrangler’s character, capability, and open-air appeal, it can still make sense — but you should go in expecting a compromised safety profile compared with mainstream SUVs.
Should I buy a 2018 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 28.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 72.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.53% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.54/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert review says the model was thoroughly improved for 2018 while staying true to the Wrangler formula, with better performance, practicality, and technology.
The bottom line: The 2018 is the right choice if you want the redesigned Wrangler experience and you’re willing to accept its safety and comfort compromises in exchange for character and capability. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop the market carefully and focus on clean, well-maintained examples with the equipment you actually want.
