What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Honda Odyssey?

At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage family hauler. Focus on signs of wear in the cabin, the sliding-door operation, and any evidence that the van has seen heavy daily use. Because this model is often chosen for family duty, condition can vary a lot from one listing to the next.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX is the simplest version and still includes 18-inch alloys, push-button start, auto climate control, power front seats, a reversing camera, Bluetooth, USB input, and a small 5-inch infotainment screen. The EX adds power-sliding rear doors, keyless ignition and entry, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, HD Radio, and a broader safety suite, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers.
• Powertrain: Every Odyssey uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 hp, and it pairs with either a ZF 9-speed automatic or a Honda 10-speed automatic. The 10-speed is described as fast and smooth, while the 9-speed is noted as slower and rougher when shifting.
• Safety package: HondaSense is standard on every trim other than the base LX. It includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning and mitigation, and adaptive cruise control. Parking sensors are reserved for higher trims.
• Infotainment: The system uses a 5-inch screen on the base LX, while the tech setup is faster and more responsive than before. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay appear on the EX, and the rear-seat entertainment system uses a 10-inch screen with higher resolution.
• Fuel efficiency: The Odyssey returns 19 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined.

Which 2018 Honda Odyssey trim should I buy?

The 2018 Honda Odyssey is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Elite.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Odyssey experience with the V6, basic convenience features, and a simple infotainment setup. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it leaves out a lot of the family-friendly equipment that makes the Odyssey especially appealing.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers. It adds power-sliding rear doors, keyless ignition and entry, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, HD Radio, and the HondaSense safety suite, along with useful comfort features like heated front seats and second-row sunshades.
• EX-L: This trim adds leather upholstery, a power liftgate, a power moonroof, memory settings, and more charging and cabin convenience. It also opens the door to the navigation and rear entertainment options, so it suits you if you want a more upscale family hauler.
• Touring: This trim layers on LED headlights, a hands-free liftgate, 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot capability, front and rear parking sensors, and the integrated vacuum system. It’s the right pick if you want the most family-friendly convenience features without going all the way to the top trim.
• Elite: This is the most luxurious version, with 19-inch alloys, additional acoustic glass, ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, a wireless phone charger, rain-sensing wipers, and a 550-watt, 11-speaker stereo. It’s best if you want the most premium Odyssey experience.

HondaSense is standard on every trim other than the base LX, and parking sensors are reserved for higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Honda Odyssey?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,333 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.10% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,202, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Honda Odyssey's resale value?

The current average of $19,202 sits slightly below last year's $20,894.

That softer pricing suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favor, which can make the Odyssey easier to shop now but may also mean future resale gains are more limited than they would be in a rising market. If you buy well and keep the van in strong condition, you can still protect value reasonably well. The key is to avoid overpaying today, because the current trend gives you less cushion than a year ago.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Honda Odyssey safe?

The 2018 Honda Odyssey earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA test other than a four-star rollover rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

HondaSense is standard on every trim other than the base LX, and it includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning and intervention, forward-collision warning and mitigation, and adaptive cruise control. Parking sensors are limited to higher trims. The safety setup is one of the Odyssey’s strongest selling points, especially if you want a family vehicle with a broad set of driver-assistance features.

Should I buy a 2018 Honda Odyssey or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.10% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It’s a redesigned minivan with more features, better handling, improved versatility, and more power, which makes it a strong pick if you want the newer-generation package.

The bottom line: The 2018 Odyssey is the better choice if you want the redesigned model’s stronger feature set, improved driving feel, and broad family appeal. If you’re mainly focused on stretching your budget, a different year may be worth considering, but the 2018 gives you a compelling mix of value, safety, and everyday usefulness.
