What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Genesis G80?

At 54.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had any bodywork or panel replacement. Focus on condition details that matter in a luxury sedan: electronics, interior wear, suspension feel, and evidence of uneven repairs. If possible, compare several listings side by side so you can separate a clean example from one that only looks good in photos.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The G80 Sport comes fully equipped, with the main choices limited to rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, paint, and upholstery. It includes adaptive LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, heated front and rear seats with ventilated sport front seats, a head-up display, a multi-view camera, a hands-free trunk lid, and driver’s memory settings. Many of those features were part of a package on lower trims, so the Sport is the easiest way to get the richer equipment set.
• Powertrain: The Sport uses a twin-turbo, 3.3-liter V6 with strong low-end torque and a quick-feeling surge once the turbos build boost. It is described as the better choice over the V8 for driveability and fuel economy, while still delivering strong acceleration.
• Safety package: The car includes Smart Cruise with auto stop, lane-departure warning and intervention, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection and auto-brake, parking sensors front and rear, and a fatigue monitor called Driver Alert Control. Some of these features were optional on lower G80 trims.
• Infotainment: You get a 9.3-inch touchscreen, Genesis Connected Services, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and a Lexicon stereo. The system is described as well designed and standard on this trim.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert evaluation cites an EPA-estimated 17 mpg city, 25 highway, 20 combined, and notes a real-world average of 18 mpg during testing.

The current average of $18,756 sits slightly below last year's $19,231.

That softer pricing suggests the model has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can help you if you're shopping now but may temper what you can expect later as a seller. The current trend also implies that well-kept examples should stand out more clearly than average-condition cars, especially if they have clean history and strong equipment. Should I buy a 2018 Genesis G80 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.47% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 adds a more performance-focused Sport trim with a twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 and adaptive suspension.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $15,548, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $18,756 average.
• It offers a distinctive luxury-sedan design with a strong value impression.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around package, the 2018 is the better target because it adds more performance, more standard equipment, and strong owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2017 is the better budget path, especially if you find one in clean condition.
