What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Genesis G80?

At 54.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair. It’s also smart to focus on how the car drives, since a used luxury sedan should feel smooth, quiet, and composed rather than loose or tired.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport trim comes fully equipped, with adaptive LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, heated seats front and rear, ventilated sport front seats, a head-up display, a multi-view camera, and a hands-free trunk lid. Lower trims may not include some of those features, so you should compare equipment carefully if you want the best value.
• Powertrain: The Sport trim uses a twin-turbo, 3.3-liter V6 and an adaptive suspension, giving the car a more athletic character while still keeping it comfortable for everyday driving.
• Safety package: The standard safety suite includes parking sensors front and rear, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning and intervention, adaptive cruise, and forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection and auto-brake.
• Infotainment: You get a 9.3-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Genesis Connected Services, and a Lexicon stereo, along with a wireless charging pad.
• Fuel efficiency: The Sport trim is described as returning an EPA-estimated 17 mpg city, 25 highway, 20 combined.

The market looks moderately favorable if you’re a selective buyer.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 328 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.32% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 54.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,272, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Genesis G80's resale value?

The current average of $18,272 sits slightly below last year's $19,298.

That decline suggests the model has become more affordable for used buyers, which can help demand in the near term. For you as a future seller, it means the car is already in a softer pricing phase, so resale gains may depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum.

Because the current average is still supported by a strong value reputation, well-kept examples should remain easier to market than neglected ones. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Genesis G80 safe?

The 2018 Genesis G80 earns Top Safety Pick+ recognition from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and five-star ratings in all tests barring a four-star score for the driver’s safety in side crashes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety suite includes parking sensors front and rear, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning and intervention, adaptive cruise, and forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection and auto-brake. That’s a strong list for a used luxury sedan, and it helps explain why the car scores so well overall.

Should I buy a 2018 Genesis G80 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.32% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 adds a more performance-focused Sport trim with a twin-turbo V6 and adaptive suspension.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $15,460, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $18,272 average.
• It offers a strong value impression with premium feel and technology.

The 2018 is the better pick if you want the stronger all-around package, especially the Sport trim’s added performance and equipment. If your priority is simply spending less up front, the 2017 is the more budget-friendly path.

How does the 2018 Genesis G80 compare to the 2018 BMW 5 Series?

Our experts score the 2018 Genesis G80 8.3/10 and the 2018 BMW 5 Series 8.3/10.

The Genesis G80 gives you a stronger value story, with a lower price and a well-equipped Sport trim that emphasizes comfort and performance together. The BMW 5 Series brings a higher starting price but also a broader market presence and stronger fuel economy in the hybrid example shown here. If you want the better bargain, the G80 stands out; if you want the more established luxury badge, the 5 Series may still appeal.
