What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Genesis G80?

At 53.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had any prior bodywork or claims. Focus on overall condition, signs of uneven wear, and whether the equipment and electronics work as expected. Because this model is loaded with features, it’s worth checking that every convenience and safety system operates correctly before you commit.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The G80 Sport comes fully equipped, with adaptive LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, heated seats front and rear, ventilated sport front seats, a head-up display, a multi-view camera, a hands-free trunk lid, and driver’s memory settings. It also includes a 14-speaker Lexicon stereo and a 9.2-inch touchscreen with navigation and Genesis Connected Services.
• Powertrain: The Sport uses a twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 with strong low-end torque and a quick, linear power delivery. It’s described as a better choice than the V8 for driveability and fuel economy, while still delivering strong acceleration.
• Safety package: The standard safety suite includes parking sensors front and rear, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning and intervention, adaptive cruise, and forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection and auto-brake.
• Infotainment: You get a 9.2-inch touchscreen, navigation, Genesis Connected Services, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and an upgraded driver display.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert evaluation cites an EPA-estimated 17 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Genesis G80?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 339 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.10% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 53.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,030, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Genesis G80's resale value?

The current average of $18,030 sits slightly below last year's $19,201.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car easier to buy now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you’re thinking about future resale, the current trend favors buyers more than sellers. A well-kept example should still hold appeal because the model’s value story remains one of its biggest strengths.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Genesis G80 safe?

The 2018 Genesis G80 earns a Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and five-star ratings in all tests except a four-star score for the driver’s safety in side crashes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety suite includes parking sensors front and rear, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning and intervention, adaptive cruise, and forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection and auto-brake. That’s a strong list for a used luxury sedan, and it helps explain the model’s high safety score. The one caveat to keep in mind is the lower side-crash result for the driver, which is worth noting if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2018 Genesis G80 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.10% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 adds a more performance-focused Sport trim with an adaptive suspension and twin-turbo V6.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $15,429, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $18,030 average.
• It offers a distinctive luxury-sedan design with a strong value impression.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2018 if you want the stronger all-around package, especially the Sport trim’s added performance and equipment. If your priority is simply spending less up front, the 2017 is the more budget-friendly path, but you give up some of the 2018’s added polish and performance character.

How does the 2018 Genesis G80 compare to the 2018 BMW 5 Series?

Our experts score the 2018 Genesis G80 8.3/10 and the 2018 BMW 5 Series 8.3/10. The Genesis gives you a stronger value story, with a lower average used price and a much more generous standard equipment list. The BMW brings better fuel economy in the comparison data and a larger pool of listings, but you’ll typically pay more for it when shopping new or similarly equipped.
