How much does the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 6.70% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,006 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 a good car?

Generally — 4.44/5 from owners and 8.17/10 from expert testing point to a truck that lands well with shoppers. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, luxurious feel, excellent features, comfortable interior, power, and fuel efficiency. That lines up with the Sierra 1500’s role as a full-size pickup that feels more family-friendly and upscale than a bare-bones work truck.

The 33.3% share of good and great deals suggests there are still worthwhile listings to find if you shop carefully.

Is the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.44/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a truck that many people find dependable and trouble-free over time, with strong satisfaction around comfort and everyday usability. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the Sierra’s capability and its ability to serve both work and family needs, which supports the case for long-term ownership confidence.

If you buy used, the main ownership risk is that some trucks may have been worked hard, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 GMC Sierra 1500?

At 68.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has higher mileage or signs of heavy use. Focus on body condition, interior wear, and how the truck drives under load and at highway speeds. Because some owners mentioned engine performance and transmission concerns, a thorough road test is especially important.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Base truck comes with Bluetooth, a 6-speaker stereo, power locks, a power tailgate, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a 7-inch touchscreen, while SLE adds satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and an 8-inch screen. SLT brings leather seating, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and the 5.3-liter V8, while Denali adds heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, navigation, wireless charging, and unique interior detailing.
• Powertrain: Engine choices include a 4.3-liter V6, a 5.3-liter V8, a 5.3-liter V8 with eAssist for better fuel economy, and a 6.2-liter V8. The V6 and 5.3-liter V8 use a 6-speed automatic, while the 6.2-liter V8 gets an 8-speed automatic.
• Safety package: The Enhanced Driver Alert Package adds forward-collision alert, automatic high-beam control, lane-departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, and the Safety Alert seat. It is available on SLE and SLT and standard on Denali.
• Infotainment: The base truck uses a 7-inch touchscreen, while other trims get an 8-inch display. IntelliLink includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the system is described as easy to use.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient setups return 18 mpg city, 24 highway, and 20 combined, while the conventional 5.3-liter V8 with rear-wheel drive returns 16 mpg city, 23 highway, and 19 combined.

Which 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in 4 trim levels: Sierra 1500, SLE, SLT, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• Sierra 1500: This is the value entry point if you want the essentials, including the standard reversing camera, IntelliLink, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the core safety equipment. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the lineup and can live without the extra comfort and convenience features.
• SLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and the larger 8-inch screen while opening up more option packages. If you want a more modern-feeling truck without jumping too far up in price, this is the trim to target.
• SLT: This is the sweet spot if you want a more upscale cabin, since it adds leather seating, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and the 5.3-liter V8. It also gives you access to more capability and comfort upgrades, making it a strong choice for buyers who want a premium feel without going all the way to Denali.
• Denali: This is the luxury pick, with heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, navigation, wireless charging, and the most upscale presentation in the lineup. It is the right choice if you want the most comfort and equipment and are willing to pay for it.

The Enhanced Driver Alert Package is available on SLE and SLT and standard on Denali, so safety-minded shoppers may want to factor that into trim selection.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 GMC Sierra 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,006 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.70% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,019, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $26,097 sits slightly below last year's $27,970.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment level rather than just model-year desirability.

Well-kept trucks with desirable trims and strong maintenance records should hold up better than rougher examples. If you buy carefully now, you improve your odds of getting a stronger return later.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.44/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 safe?

The 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Sierra comes standard with a reversing camera with dynamic guidelines, six airbags, StabiliTrak stability control, and the LATCH child-seat anchoring system. It also adds Easy Fill Alert to the tire pressure monitoring system for 2018, which is a useful everyday convenience.

The Enhanced Driver Alert Package adds forward-collision alert, automatic high-beam control, lane-departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, and the Safety Alert seat. It is available on SLE and SLT and standard on Denali, so lower trims may need extra equipment to match the best safety setup.

Should I buy a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.70% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.44/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds standard reversing camera and infotainment equipment, which improves value over the prior year.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $30,919, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $26,097 average.
• It was completely redesigned for more capability and usefulness.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2018 is the smarter buy because it combines lower pricing with strong owner satisfaction and useful standard equipment. If you care more about getting the newer redesign and can stretch your budget, the 2019 is the cleaner upgrade path.
