CarGurus Analysis: 2018 GMC Acadia
overall

Summary
With 2,627 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,496.00, 29.0% of 2018 GMC Acadia models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 GMC Acadia 4.79 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
60.9% of 2018 Acadia models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 GMC Acadia stands out as a three-row crossover that became more versatile when V6 power was made available to more trims. That matters because the Acadia had already been lightened significantly, and the result was improved handling, braking, and fuel economy, along with a bit more towing capacity and third-row legroom. For buyers who want a family-friendly crossover with a more capable feel, those changes help define its appeal.
At the same time, the Acadia is not without compromises. The 4-cylinder engine was described as largely inadequate to its task, which makes the wider availability of the V6 especially important for shoppers considering this model. Owner feedback also points to a spacious and comfortable interior, a strong feature set, and a safe, roomy driving experience, while noting concerns about cost and limited trunk space.

The stereo system is low budget. Needs more quality , it couldn’t hurt considering the price for the vehicle.

My new/used 2018 Acadia is just what I was looking for. It has mostly all the bells and whistles. I thought it had a heated steering wheel, but I cant locate the button for it. Otherwise the 1 owner who owned it before me took really good care of it and it is very very tight! Nice find for me

I love my 2018 Acadia. I bought it in 2020 as a CPO vehicle, and it felt and looked brand new. My previous car was an 05 BMW X5 and drove like a sports car. I needed my next SUV to handle the road similarly and it had to be towable. It checked off those boxes easily. I also wanted a 3rd row seat. And the 2nd row seats had to be a bench seat to accommodate my 120lb dog. On top of all that, it had to be reliable!! I LOVE my Acadia and would recommend it to anyone.

If you find a listing below $15,554.12, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2018 GMC Acadia a good car?
Yes — the 4.79/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.17/10. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the spacious and comfortable interior, the roomy design, and the strong feature set. That lines up well with the Acadia’s family-friendly use case, especially if you want a three-row crossover that feels more capable and still works well for everyday driving.
With 26.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s enough market opportunity to make this a worthwhile model to shop carefully.
Is the 2018 GMC Acadia reliable?
Owners rate it 4.79/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback also points to a comfortable, dependable-feeling interior and a vehicle many families feel good about living with over time. The expert evaluation adds that the Acadia’s broader trim and powertrain mix gives you more flexibility, which can help you choose a version that better fits your needs for the long haul.
The main ownership risk for used buyers is choosing the wrong configuration, especially if you need stronger performance or plan to keep the vehicle loaded up regularly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 GMC Acadia?
At 61% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible wear. Focus on condition, maintenance evidence, and whether the vehicle’s equipment matches how you plan to use it.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SL trim is the most basic setup, with the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, front-wheel drive, a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. Moving up to SLE brings all-wheel drive availability and the option of the V6, while SLE2 adds heated power front seats, a power liftgate, roof rails, and remote start. SLT1 and SLT2 add more comfort and safety equipment, and Denali brings the most upscale cabin and tech.
- Powertrain: The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder makes 193 horsepower and 188 pound-feet of torque, but it is described as inadequate for more than commuter duty. The 3.6-liter V6 makes 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque, with 17 mpg city, 25 highway, 20 combined, and it is the better choice if you tow, haul, or regularly carry a full family.
- Safety package: Driver Alert I adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. Some of the best safety tech is not standard on lower trims.
- Infotainment: The base setup includes a 7-inch touchscreen with Intellilink, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. Higher trims add an upgraded driver display, a larger 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, and virtual gauges.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter engine returns 21 mpg city and 26 highway. The V6 returns 17 mpg city, 25 highway, and 20 combined.
Which 2018 GMC Acadia trim should I buy?
The 2018 GMC Acadia is offered in 6 trim levels: SL, SLE, SLE1, SLE2, SLT1, SLT2, Denali.
Here's the short version:
- SL: This is the value entry point if you want the lowest-cost way into the Acadia, but it is also the most stripped-down version. You get the 2.5-liter engine, front-wheel drive, and a solid base tech setup, but no engine or drivetrain choice.
- SLE: This is the trim to watch if you want the best balance of price and flexibility, because it opens the door to all-wheel drive and the V6. If you want the strongest overall value, this is the trim to focus on first.
- SLE1: This trim adds LED running lights and satellite radio, making it a modest step up if you want a little more convenience without jumping too far in price.
- SLE2: This is the better-equipped family choice, with heated power front seats, a power liftgate, roof rails, remote start, and standard second-row captain’s chairs that make third-row access easier.
- SLT1: This trim is the comfort-and-safety sweet spot, adding leather upholstery, upgraded front seats, a Bose stereo, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors.
- SLT2: This is the best fit if you want more advanced safety and towing-friendly equipment, thanks to lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, low-speed forward-collision warning and auto braking, plus a trailering package and heated second-row seats.
- Denali: Choose this if you want the most upscale Acadia, with the upgraded touchscreen, navigation, heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, xenon headlights, hands-free liftgate, and distinctive styling.
The safety packages are not evenly spread across the lineup, so if advanced driver assistance matters to you, make sure the trim you choose includes the package you want.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 GMC Acadia?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 26.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,671 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.87% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,554.12, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 GMC Acadia's resale value?
The current average of $15,549 sits slightly below last year's $17,644.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Acadia easier to buy now but also means future sellers may face softer pricing if the trend continues. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can help protect your exit value later. Trim choice matters too, since better-equipped versions with stronger owner appeal tend to hold buyer interest more effectively.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.79/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 GMC Acadia safe?
The Acadia was named a Top Safety Pick by IIHS when equipped with the Driver Alert II package, and it earns five-star ratings in frontal crash tests and four-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The safety story is strongest on trims that include the Driver Alert packages. Driver Alert I brings blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors, while Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking.
The main caveat is that some of the best safety technology is not standard across the lineup, so you should verify exactly which package a used example has before you buy.
Should I buy a 2018 GMC Acadia or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 26.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.87% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.79/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The V6 is now available on more trims, improving versatility and everyday usability.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $13,090, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $15,549 average.
- It is a lighter redesign with a more modern footprint.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $17,479, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $15,549 average.
- It feels more upscale inside and more refined on the road.
The bottom line: The 2018 is the better pick if you want the strongest mix of value, available V6 power, and family-friendly versatility. If your budget is tighter, the 2017 can save you money, while the 2019 makes sense if you want a more upscale cabin and are willing to pay more for it.
