That breadth makes it a strong fit if you want a midsize sedan with more than one personality, and the lineup spans a wide price range while still landing as one of the better midsize cars you can buy. 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2018 Ford Fusion reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The 2018 Fusion is presented as a well-rounded midsize sedan with strong road manners, and the expert review also points to a broad range of available equipment that helps it feel substantial for the money. Its performance character is especially notable in the Sport model, which is described as fast, fun to drive, and capable of handling hard use.

The review also notes that the car’s infotainment and driver-assistance features are modern for the era, which can help daily livability if the equipment is working properly. If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well, since higher-performance versions and more heavily optioned examples can be more expensive to keep in top shape.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford Fusion?

At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection so you can confirm the car’s condition matches the listing. Pay close attention to bodywork, electronics, and any signs of uneven wear, especially if you’re considering a higher-trim or more heavily optioned example.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from a basic but stylish car to an undeniably luxurious sedan and a genuine sports sedan, so you should compare equipment carefully and watch for feature gaps in the base trim.
• Powertrain: The Fusion is available with a standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder, a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, and a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6; the review also notes that the Sport is the most powerful and thrilling choice.
• Safety package: Ford offers a usual laundry list of safety, driver-assistance, and collision-avoidance features, and the car can be equipped with optional inflatable rear seat belts. The review also notes that some driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies are available rather than standard.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Sync Connect service with a FordPass app, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Siri Eyes Free, audible text messaging, and 911 Assist service following a collision.
• Fuel efficiency: Hybrid versions are rated at 42 mpg in combined driving, and plug-in hybrid versions are rated at 97 MPGe with about 20 miles of electric driving range. The Sport test car returned 20.6 mpg on the review loop and is rated at 20 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2018 Ford Fusion trim should I buy?

The 2018 Ford Fusion is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SE, Titanium, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the basic Fusion experience at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the style and core sedan package without paying for extra equipment.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it sits in the middle of the lineup and can be upgraded with the optional 240-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter engine and AWD. If you want a rewarding daily driver without jumping to the most expensive versions, this is the trim to focus on.
• Titanium: This trim adds an upscale flavor and is the right choice if you want a more premium-feeling Fusion without going all the way to the top.
• Platinum: This is the loaded-up luxury-leaning choice, and it suits you if you want the most upscale version of the standard lineup.

Ford also offers available driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies, so check the equipment list carefully if those features matter to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford Fusion?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,741 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.97% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,371, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Ford Fusion's resale value?

The current average of $11,371 sits slightly below last year's $12,224.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less favorable if you’re planning to sell soon. If you own one, pricing it competitively will matter, especially because shoppers have a decent number of listings to compare. A well-kept example with desirable equipment should still hold attention better than a rougher one.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Ford Fusion safe?

The 2018 Ford Fusion performs beautifully in all Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) assessments, including the new front passenger’s side small overlap frontal impact test, though the IIHS does think it needs better headlights and more easily accessible child safety seat anchors. It earns four-star ratings for the front passenger, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford offers the usual laundry list of safety, driver-assistance, and collision-avoidance features, and the car can be equipped with optional inflatable rear seat belts. The review also notes that some driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies are available, rather than standard.

Should I buy a 2018 Ford Fusion or consider a different year?

• The 2018 Fusion stands out for its unusual breadth of lineup, ranging from a basic but stylish car to a genuine sports sedan.

The bottom line: If you want the broadest mix of trims, powertrains, and personalities in a midsize sedan, the 2018 Fusion is a strong place to start. If you’re more price-sensitive, the softened market and decent deal share make this a good year to shop carefully and target the best-equipped example you can find for the money.

How does the 2018 Ford Fusion compare to the 2018 Honda Accord?

Our experts score the 2018 Ford Fusion 8.5/10 and the 2018 Honda Accord 8.2/10. The Fusion gives you a much lower average used price and a broader personality range, while the Accord brings stronger fuel economy and more listings to choose from. If you want the more affordable buy with performance and trim variety, the Fusion has the edge; if you want efficiency and a larger used-market pool, the Accord is the safer bet.
