I love this car, nice gas mileage and the mid to upper class models have tons of features suitable for the whole family. The only downside that I have found is at the dealership - high prices, although you really only get what you pay for!

The Fusion is presented as a well-rounded midsize sedan with broad appeal, and the expert review emphasizes that it remains one of the better cars in its class even without a full redesign in years. The performance write-up also points to strong braking, confident power delivery, and an AWD system that does a good job of putting power down.
The cost-effectiveness discussion adds that Ford has often supported the model with incentives, which can help lower ownership cost when you buy used. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well, especially if it has the more complex performance or hybrid hardware.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford Fusion?
At 62.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair. Because the Fusion lineup spans everything from basic trims to performance and electrified versions, it’s also smart to focus on whether the car’s equipment and condition match the trim level being advertised.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup ranges from the basic S to the SE, Titanium, Platinum, and Fusion Sport, and the base trim is described as having inexpensive hard plastic in the cabin. Higher trims add more upscale finishes, while the Sport brings carbon-pattern interior trim and an Earth Gray over Black color scheme.
- Powertrain: The Fusion is available with a standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder, a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, and a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 in the Sport. Hybrid versions are rated at 42 mpg in combined driving, and plug-in hybrid versions deliver 97 MPGe with about 20 miles of electric range.
- Safety package: Ford offers a broad set of safety, driver-assistance, and collision-avoidance features, and the car can be equipped with optional inflatable rear seat belts. The review also notes available driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies, though some features are not standard on every trim.
- Infotainment: Sync 3 is the key system to look for, and it supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Sync Connect with FordPass, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Siri Eyes Free, audible text messaging, and 911 Assist. It is quick to load and responsive, and it can be paired with a Sony premium sound system and navigation.
- Fuel efficiency: The hybrid versions are rated at 42 mpg in combined driving, and the plug-in hybrid versions are rated at 97 MPGe. The Sport test car returned 20.6 mpg on the test loop and requires 93-octane fuel for maximum output.
Which 2018 Ford Fusion trim should I buy?
The 2018 Ford Fusion is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SE, Titanium, and Platinum.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the most affordable way into the Fusion lineup. It makes sense if you want the styling and basic sedan experience without paying for extra equipment.
- SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it sits in the sweet spot between price and equipment. The review specifically points out that an SE with the optional 240-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter engine and AWD can be a rewarding all-weather family car.
- Titanium: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the top of the range. It adds a more premium flavor and is a good fit if comfort and features matter more than keeping the purchase price down.
- Platinum: This is the luxury-leaning choice, aimed at shoppers who want the most upscale version of the standard lineup. It makes sense if you want the richest feature set and are willing to pay more for it.
The safety content notes that the Fusion has a broad set of safety and driver-assistance features, but some equipment is optional rather than standard, so it’s worth checking the exact feature list on the trim you’re considering.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford Fusion?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop, but the best listings still deserve quick attention.
- Deal availability: 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,775 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.44% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 62.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,647, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Ford Fusion's resale value?
The current average of $11,784 sits slightly below last year's $12,732.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim desirability rather than on broad market appreciation.
The Fusion’s wide lineup can help or hurt resale depending on the version you own. Well-equipped trims and standout variants may hold buyer interest better than a plain base car, especially if the vehicle has been kept in clean condition.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Ford Fusion safe?
The 2018 Ford Fusion performs beautifully in IIHS assessments, including the front passenger-side small overlap frontal impact test, but the IIHS does think it needs better headlights and more easily accessible child safety seat anchors. It earns a three-star crash protection rating for the front passenger from NHTSA, and top marks in the other NHTSA tests.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford offers a broad set of safety, driver-assistance, and collision-avoidance features, and the car can be equipped with optional inflatable rear seat belts. The review also mentions available driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies, along with MyKey for encouraging safer teen driving habits and active parking assist on some versions.
The main caveat is that the federal front-passenger crash result is weaker than the rest of the safety picture, so you should pay close attention to the exact equipment and crash-test context when comparing used examples.
Should I buy a 2018 Ford Fusion or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 62.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.44% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 stands out for its unusually broad lineup, ranging from a basic sedan to hybrid, plug-in hybrid, luxury, and sports-sedan versions.
The bottom line: If you want the broadest mix of trims and personalities in a used midsize sedan, the 2018 Fusion is a strong choice because it gives you a lot of flexibility at a lower average price than last year. If you’re especially price-sensitive, shop carefully for the best-condition example in the trim you want, since the market still includes a meaningful number of accident-history listings.
