I love this car, nice gas mileage and the mid to upper class models have tons of features suitable for the whole family. The only downside that I have found is at the dealership - high prices, although you really only get what you pay for!

The performance notes also point to strong braking and confident power delivery, which are encouraging signs for everyday durability.
The cost-effectiveness notes add that Ford has often supported the model with incentives, and the SE trim with the optional turbocharged 2.0-liter engine and AWD is described as a rewarding daily driver. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained carefully, especially if it has the more complex performance or electrified hardware.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford Fusion?
At 61.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-trim or performance-oriented example. Focus on body condition, evidence of prior repair quality, and whether the car’s equipment and driving feel match the seller’s description. Because the accident-free share is not overwhelming, condition should matter as much as price.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base version is described as the S, and it starts with a more basic setup than the higher trims. The lineup also includes SE, Titanium, and Platinum, with the Sport positioned as the performance-focused choice.
- Powertrain: You can find a standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, turbocharged 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter 4-cylinders, and a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 in the Sport. Hybrid versions are rated at 42 mpg in combined driving, and plug-in hybrid versions are rated at 97 MPGe with about 20 miles of electric range.
- Safety package: Ford includes a broad set of safety, driver-assistance, and collision-avoidance features, and the car also offers optional inflatable rear seat belts. The review notes that the Fusion needs better headlights and more easily accessible child safety seat anchors.
- Infotainment: Sync 3 is the key system here, and it supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Sync Connect with FordPass, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Siri Eyes Free, audible text messaging, and 911 Assist. It can also be paired with a Sony premium sound system and navigation.
- Fuel efficiency: The hybrid versions are rated at 42 mpg in combined driving, while the plug-in hybrid versions deliver 97 MPGe. The Sport test loop returned 20.6 mpg and requires 93-octane fuel.
Which 2018 Ford Fusion trim should I buy?
The 2018 Ford Fusion is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SE, Titanium, and Platinum.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The S is the entry point, so it gives you the least expensive path into the lineup but leaves out the richer equipment and upscale touches found higher up.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SE is the best value for many shoppers because it sits in the middle of the range and can be paired with the optional turbocharged 2.0-liter engine and AWD for a more rewarding daily drive.
- Premium/top trim: The Platinum is the loaded-up choice, bringing the most luxury-oriented feel in the standard gas lineup.
- Off-road trim: The Sport is the one to watch if you want performance, but its higher fuel and premium-fuel demands make it less appealing for typical daily-driving value.
The safety package includes optional inflatable rear seat belts, and the car’s broader safety and driver-assistance equipment is part of what makes the lineup appealing.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford Fusion?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.
- Deal availability: 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,804 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.88% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,649.11, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Ford Fusion's resale value?
The current average of $11,836 sits slightly below last year's $12,989.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, the current softness means your future resale will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim desirability rather than broad market momentum alone.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Ford Fusion safe?
The 2018 Fusion performs beautifully in all Insurance Institute for Highway Safety assessments, including the new front passenger’s side small overlap frontal impact test. It also earns a three-star crash protection rating for the front passenger from NHTSA, while earning top marks in the other NHTSA tests.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford offers a broad set of safety, driver-assistance, and collision-avoidance features, and the car also offers optional inflatable rear seat belts. The review notes two caveats: the headlights could be better, and the child safety seat anchors are not as easy to access as they should be.
Should I buy a 2018 Ford Fusion or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.88% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 Fusion lineup offers unusual breadth, including basic, stylish, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, luxury-leaning, and performance-oriented versions.
The bottom line: If you want a used midsize sedan with a wide range of trims and powertrains, the 2018 Fusion is a strong place to start. If your priority is the lowest possible purchase price, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2018 gives you a compelling mix of value, variety, and features.
