How much does the 2018 Ford Explorer cost?

Prices have softened 9.90% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,819 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2018 Ford Explorer a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Ford Explorer earns a 4.74/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise the spacious interior, comfortable ride, and strong performance, and many also like the extra convenience features such as heated seats and a sunroof. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a roomy, family-oriented midsize SUV with broad everyday usability and available features that make daily driving easier. With 32.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Ford Explorer reliable?

Owners rate it 4.74/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe it as comfortable, spacious, and strong-performing, and the feedback also points to a generally dependable ownership experience. The recurring praise for everyday usability and the lack of major complaint themes in the summary suggest that many owners feel confident living with it over time. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk looks manageable, but you should still verify maintenance history and condition before you commit.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford Explorer?

At 67.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with accident records. Then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the vehicle feels well maintained, since those details matter more when you’re shopping a used family SUV.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford Explorer?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,819 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.90% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,457, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Ford Explorer's resale value?

The current average of $15,457 sits slightly below last year's $17,156.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. If you plan to resell later, the current trend means your future value will depend heavily on how well you preserve condition, mileage, and service history. A well-kept example should still appeal to shoppers who want a roomy, feature-rich SUV at a lower price point than newer alternatives.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.74/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Ford Explorer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.90% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.74/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2018 if you want a well-liked, roomy three-row SUV and you can verify condition carefully. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, a nearby year may still be worth comparing, but the 2018 stands out as a sensible choice when you find a clean, fairly priced example.
