How much does the 2018 Ford Expedition cost?

Prices have softened 11.35% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,021 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2018 Ford Expedition a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Ford Expedition earns a 4.73/5 user rating and an 8.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, power, and comfort, and they also point to good fuel economy for a large SUV plus a generous feature set. That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a full-size SUV built for families and other buyers who need serious room, cargo space, and towing ability without giving up everyday comfort. With 32.9% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Ford Expedition reliable?

Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback highlights a dependable-feeling package with spaciousness, power, comfort, and good fuel economy for a vehicle this size. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the Expedition’s robust power delivery and composed ride, which supports the sense that it’s built to handle regular family use and long-distance duty with confidence. Ford also includes a long list of driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technology, which adds to the impression of a well-rounded ownership experience.

Some owners do mention high repair costs, so used buyers should pay close attention to maintenance history and budget for potentially higher long-term ownership expenses.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford Expedition?

At 70.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then focus your inspection on body condition, repair quality, and signs of prior collision work. Because this is a large, feature-rich SUV, it also makes sense to check that the electronics, driver-assistance systems, and convenience features all work as intended. If you’re comparing multiple listings, prioritize the cleanest example over the cheapest one.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The standard-length Expedition and the Expedition MAX are the main body styles to compare, and the MAX adds an extra foot of length plus additional cargo space behind the third row. The everyday trims are XLT, Limited, and Platinum, while the basic XL is intended for fleet sales. The XLT is the entry point, the Limited adds more equipment, and the Platinum brings upscale details and a more premium look.
• Powertrain: You get a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, and Platinum trim adds an extra 25 horsepower and 10 lb-ft. The 10-speed automatic is part of the package, and the SUV’s power delivery is described as strong and responsive. Maximum towing capacity reaches 9,300 pounds.
• Safety package: The Expedition offers adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, a reversing camera, MyKey, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors. Some of these systems are available rather than standard, so trim and package selection matters.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 uses an 8-inch display and includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Sync Connect services. Wireless device charging, navigation, a 360-degree surround-view camera system, and a B&O Play premium sound system are available, and the SUV can also be equipped with a rear-seat entertainment system.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test loop returned 18.3 mpg.

Which 2018 Ford Expedition trim should I buy?

The 2018 Ford Expedition is offered in 4 trim levels: XLT, Limited, Platinum, and XL.

Here's the short version:

• XLT: This is the starting point and the best-value choice if you want the Expedition’s core strengths without paying for extra luxury touches. It gives you the full-size SUV basics, and the review makes clear that the standard Expedition already serves most buyers well unless you regularly need the extra space of the MAX.
• Limited: This is the trim that best balances equipment and value. The review vehicle was a Limited with Package 301, and it shows how much useful tech and comfort you can get without jumping all the way to Platinum. If you want the sweet spot, this is the one to focus on.
• Platinum: This is the upscale pick, with more power, more presence, and premium details inside and out. It also gets standard adaptive damping suspension, which helps reinforce the more refined feel. Choose this if you want the most luxurious Expedition experience.
• XL: This trim is intended for fleet sales to government and business entities, so it is not the one most retail shoppers should target.

The safety-package content points to a broad set of available driver-assistance features, but some of the most advanced systems are tied to packages and equipment choices, so verify the exact build before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford Expedition?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,021 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.35% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,942, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Ford Expedition's resale value?

The current average of $20,008 sits slightly below last year's $22,571.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper what you can expect later as a seller. If you buy at a competitive price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to limit depreciation pain. The Expedition’s broad appeal as a family-focused, full-size SUV should still support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Ford Expedition safe?

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The 2018 Expedition now offers adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist. It also includes a reversing camera and MyKey, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and front and rear parking sensors are available. Some of the driver aids are package-dependent, so you should confirm exactly which systems are fitted on any used example you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2018 Ford Expedition or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.35% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 stands out as a completely redesigned full-size SUV with more interior room, greater comfort, superior cargo space, and significantly more towing capacity.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Expedition with strong space, towing, and comfort credentials, the 2018 is the year to target. It makes the most sense for buyers who value capability and family utility first. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and look for a well-kept example near the low end of the range, but the 2018’s combination of redesign, features, and owner satisfaction makes it the primary year to consider.
