CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Dodge Durango
overall

Summary
With 1,656 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,897.00, 31.0% of 2018 Dodge Durangos for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Dodge Durango 4.67 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
62.3% of 2018 Durango models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Dodge Durango stands out as a family-sized SUV with a performance edge. A new SRT trim gives it a more athletic personality, and the added 475 hp makes this three-row crossover feel especially serious about speed. That combination is unusual in a vehicle aimed at hauling people and cargo, which is a big part of what makes this Durango distinctive.
It also gained a more modern tech setup for the year. Standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay arrive on the Durango, along with a standard reversing camera and a new 7-inch touchscreen. Those updates make the 2018 model easier to live with day to day, especially for buyers who want a practical SUV that still feels up to date inside.
At the same time, the Durango’s appeal is not just about equipment. The owner feedback points to a spacious interior, strong performance, and family-friendly usefulness, while also noting that some lower trims can feel basic and that purchase costs may be high. That balance helps define the 2018 Dodge Durango: it is a roomy, capable SUV that tries to blend everyday utility with a more muscular character than many rivals.

I LOVE everything about this suv. I needed something with 3 rows because kids, but I didn’t want to settle for a “mom” van. The dvd entertainment is amazing, especially for the kids. I can drive peacefully and even have actual conversations with my husband instead of getting interrupted by my kids 5 times in a minute, because they’re busy watching movies. The heated seats and steering wheel is another plus. It’s drives amazing. I am seriously in love with my Dodge Durango r/t. I wouldn’t change a thing about it

Is the 2018 Dodge Durango a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Dodge Durango earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, powerful performance, and family-friendly features. They also call out the smooth ride and effective electronic interface, which fits a three-row SUV that needs to work well for daily driving and family trips.
That lines up with the Durango’s role as a roomy, capable SUV that blends utility with a more muscular personality than many rivals. For you, that means it makes the most sense if you want space, comfort, and a performance edge in the same package.
29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.
Is the 2018 Dodge Durango reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in everyday family use, with praise for its spacious cabin, smooth ride, and family-friendly usefulness. That kind of feedback suggests you can count on it for regular hauling and commuting duties.
The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Durango’s fully independent, rubber-damped suspension helps it feel lighter than its weight suggests, which supports a composed, confidence-inspiring driving experience. The cost-effectiveness commentary also reinforces that the Durango is built around serious capability, especially if you want V8 power in a crossover.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that higher purchase costs and heavier-duty mechanicals can make upkeep and running costs more demanding than a lighter SUV.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Dodge Durango?
At 61.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-trim or more heavily optioned example. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the equipment you want is actually present, since some lower trims can feel basic.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base version starts with a 7-inch touchscreen, reversing camera, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, RWD, 7-passenger seating, keyless ignition and entry, 3-zone auto climate control, a load-leveling rear suspension, and heated mirrors. Higher trims add features like an 8-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support, roof rails, rear park assist, power liftgate, remote start, leather upholstery, heated front and second-row seats, heated steering wheel, driver memory settings, rear parking sensors, upgraded leather, ventilated front seats, sunroof, front parking sensors, and a premium audio setup.
- Powertrain: The lineup includes a 293-hp V6, a 360-hp 5.7-liter V8, and a 475-hp 6.4-liter V8. The V6 is efficient and capable, the 5.7-liter V8 adds stronger towing and better all-around muscle, and the top V8 is the performance choice.
- Safety package: A Technology package adds adaptive cruise with auto braking and brake assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path alert, full-speed forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. A separate Safety/Security & Convenience Group adds auto high beams with auto leveling, blind-spot monitor with cross-path alert, low-beam HIDs, rain-sensing wipers, and a power steering column. Some of these features are not standard on lower trims.
- Infotainment: The Durango comes with a standard 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a reversing camera. Higher trims can add an 8.4-inch touchscreen, HD Radio, a subwoofer, and a more advanced infotainment setup.
- Fuel efficiency: The V6 returns 19 mpg city and 26 highway, while the 5.7-liter V8 returns 14 mpg city and 22 highway. The 6.4-liter V8 returns an estimated 13 mpg city and 19 highway.
Which 2018 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?
The 2018 Dodge Durango is offered in 6 trim levels: SXT, SXT Plus, GT, Citadel, R/T, SRT.
Here's the short version:
- SXT: This is the value starting point if you want the Durango’s core strengths without stretching the budget. You get the V6, 7-passenger seating, the standard tech upgrades, and best-in-class towing for the V6, so it makes sense if you want capability first.
- SXT Plus: This is the best-value trim if you want a more comfortable daily driver. The 8-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support, roof rails, and rear park assist make it feel more complete without jumping too far up the price ladder.
- GT: This is the trim to target if you want a nicer cabin and more convenience features. The power liftgate, remote start, leather upholstery, heated seats, heated steering wheel, and driver memory settings make it a strong middle-ground choice.
- Citadel: This is the pick if you want the most luxury-oriented Durango before stepping into performance territory. The upgraded leather, ventilated front seats, sunroof, front parking sensors, and upgraded infotainment give it a more upscale feel.
- R/T: This is the right choice if you want V8 power and a sportier personality. The sport suspension, upgraded steering, LED fog lights, and best-in-class towing make it the enthusiast’s sweet spot.
- SRT: This is the performance flagship. The 475-hp V8, adaptive suspension, sport steering tune, electronic limited-slip differential, and SRT Performance Pages make it the most serious choice if speed matters most.
The Technology package is not standard on every trim, so if advanced driver assistance matters to you, make sure the specific vehicle you are considering has it.

What is the 2018 Dodge Durango's resale value?
The current average of $17,918 sits slightly below last year's $19,860.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, the current softness means your upside may depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market appreciation.
Well-kept examples with desirable trims and strong equipment should hold buyer interest better than basic or heavily worn ones. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Dodge Durango safe?
It earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side impacts.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The available Technology package adds adaptive cruise with auto braking and brake assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path alert, full-speed forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. Some of those features are not standard on lower trims, so you should verify equipment carefully if safety tech is a priority.
Should I buy a 2018 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.78% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds standard Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a reversing camera, and a new 7-inch touchscreen.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $14,965, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $17,918 average.
- It offers family-hauling duty with a crossover-like ride and strong towing ability.
The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped and more modern-feeling Durango, the 2018 is the stronger all-around choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2017 is the more budget-friendly path, especially if you can find one in good condition with the features you need.
