Is the 2018 Audi Q5 a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Audi Q5 earns a 4.93/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

The market also looks supportive, with 37.8% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2018 Audi Q5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.93/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with repeated praise for its comfortable ride, strong safety features, and overall refinement. The expert review also describes it as an impressive all-rounder with improved performance and driving dynamics, which supports the sense that it’s built to be a confident long-term companion.

Audi’s powertrain setup adds to that impression, with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, and Quattro Ultra all-wheel drive designed to balance performance and efficiency. The cost-effectiveness notes also emphasize standard AWD and a strong equipment list, which can help reduce the feeling that you’re giving up too much for ownership.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright capability and more about making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and hasn’t developed wear-related issues over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Audi Q5?

At 69.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair quality, and whether the cabin and controls show wear that doesn’t match the mileage. Because this is a luxury SUV, you’ll also want to pay close attention to how well the electronics, drivetrain, and braking feel in real-world use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The standard Q5 is offered in Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trim levels. Premium Plus is the best-value choice if you want a stronger equipment mix without jumping all the way to the top trim, while Prestige adds the most advanced tech and driver-assistance content. Base Premium models are the most likely to leave you without some of the higher-end convenience and safety features.
• Powertrain: The Q5 uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission and Quattro Ultra all-wheel drive. The setup is tuned for strong everyday acceleration and better fuel economy under certain conditions.
• Safety package: Audi Pre-Sense is standard on all Q5 models and includes forward-collision detection and automatic emergency braking below 52 mph, plus cabin-preparation technology for an unavoidable impact. The Driver Assistance Package is exclusive to Prestige models and adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and Traffic Jam Assist. Premium Plus models also add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist.
• Infotainment: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all models. The latest Multi-Media Interface All-in-Touch system is standard on Prestige and optional on other versions, and Audi Virtual Cockpit is standard on Prestige and optional on Premium Plus. A 12.3-inch digital display and full-color head-up display are Prestige-only features.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review says the Q5 is rated at 25 mpg combined, though the test vehicle returned 21.3 mpg in real-world driving.

Which 2018 Audi Q5 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Audi Q5 is offered in 4 trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, Prestige, SQ5.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Q5 experience with standard AWD, leather seats, real wood trim, three-zone climate control, and Audi Pre-Sense. It makes sense if you want the redesigned Q5’s fundamentals at the lowest price, but you’ll miss some of the richer tech and driver-assistance upgrades.
• Premium Plus: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more complete luxury feel without pushing all the way to Prestige. It brings blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist, and it can be optioned with desirable tech like the Bang & Olufsen sound system and Audi Virtual Cockpit.
• Prestige: This is the trim to choose if you want the most advanced tech and safety content. It gets the standard Multi-Media Interface All-in-Touch system, Audi Virtual Cockpit, a full-color head-up display, and the Driver Assistance Package with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• SQ5: This is the performance variant, so it’s the one to consider if you want the sportier alternative rather than the standard Q5’s balanced luxury focus.

Audi’s Driver Assistance Package is exclusive to Prestige models, so if you want the fullest safety and convenience suite, that trim is the one to target.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Audi Q5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile opportunities.

• Deal availability: 37.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,718 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.80% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,571, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Audi Q5's resale value?

The current average of $15,571 sits slightly below last year's $17,456.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.

Because the Q5 still has strong appeal as a luxury compact SUV, a clean example with desirable equipment should remain easier to move than a neglected one. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.93/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Audi Q5 safe?

The 2018 Audi Q5 earns top marks for moderate overlap frontal impact and side impact protection from IIHS, but a Marginal rating for the headlight performance of certain versions of the vehicle.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Audi Pre-Sense is standard on all Q5 models and includes forward-collision detection and automatic emergency braking below 52 mph, along with cabin-preparation technology for an unavoidable impact. The Driver Assistance Package, exclusive to Prestige models, adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and Traffic Jam Assist. Premium Plus models also get blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist.

The main caveat is the headlight result, which means you should pay close attention to the lighting equipment on any used example you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2018 Audi Q5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 37.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.80% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.93/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Expert or safety highlight specific to this year: it’s the redesigned Q5, bringing the latest technology, improved performance and driving dynamics, more interior room, and greater overall sophistication.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned 2018 Q5’s stronger tech, roomier cabin, and more polished driving feel, this is the year to target. If your priority is simply the lowest possible entry price, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2018 stands out as the more modern and well-rounded choice.
