How much does the 2018 BMW X3 cost?

Prices have softened 5.48% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,814 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2018 BMW X3 a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Technology.

The 2018 X3 is a complete redesign, so you’re looking at a third-generation version that feels fresh rather than lightly updated. Its appeal is strongest if you want a compact luxury crossover with BMW character, a refined cabin, and a strong mix of everyday practicality and modern tech.

The market also shows 33.6% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2018 BMW X3 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2018 X3 is described as a thoroughly updated third-generation model, and its powertrain is presented as smooth, strong, and well matched to the chassis. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is praised for pulling hard at all speeds, while the eight-speed automatic is described as exceptionally smooth and responsive.

BMW also includes three years or 36,000 miles of scheduled maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership friction. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that luxury-tech and option-heavy examples can be expensive to keep up if prior maintenance was skipped.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 BMW X3?

At 70.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars with higher mileage or a long option list. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and evidence of prior bodywork or electrical issues, since a luxury crossover like this can be costly to sort out after the sale.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is conservative and tasteful, with standard SensaTec upholstery, while leather is available on better-equipped examples. Higher trims and packages add more upscale touches, including a panoramic moonroof and more advanced lighting, so base cars can feel noticeably less equipped.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four makes 248 horsepower and is paired with an eight-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive. It’s described as smooth, strong, and free of the vibration you might expect from a small engine.
• Safety package: Forward-collision alert, automatic braking with pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control are tied to two option packages. The car you’re shopping may only have blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning if it was equipped with the smaller driver-assistance package.
• Infotainment: The X3 includes the latest iDrive interface, touchscreen capability, a 360-degree camera system on higher equipment, wireless device charging, Apple CarPlay, and in-car Wi-Fi. The head-up display and fast voice recognition are standout features.
• Fuel efficiency: No fuel-economy figure is stated in the available data.

Which 2018 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2018 BMW X3 is offered in 2 trim levels: xDrive30i, xDrive M40i.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive30i: This is the trim most shoppers should start with because it delivers the core X3 experience: standard all-wheel drive, the 248-horsepower turbo four, a smooth eight-speed automatic, and the upscale cabin and tech that define the model. It’s the best-value choice if you want the BMW badge and the redesigned X3’s everyday usability without paying for the more expensive performance model.
• xDrive M40i: This is the stronger, more performance-focused choice, with a turbocharged inline-six making 355 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, plus upgraded brakes and a sport suspension. Choose it if you want the quickest and most athletic version of the X3 and are willing to pay more for that extra capability.

BMW notes that some driver-assistance features are only available with option packages, so check each listing carefully for the safety equipment you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 BMW X3?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop around but still enough demand to reward quick action on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,814 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.48% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,367, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $17,951 sits slightly below last year's $18,992.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than assuming the model will hold its price unchanged.

Well-kept examples with strong maintenance records should be easier to move later, especially because the X3 still has broad appeal as a compact luxury crossover. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 BMW X3 safe?

The 2018 X3 is still too new to have been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW offers driver-assistance features such as forward-collision alert, automatic braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure warning, but several of the more advanced systems are tied to option packages. The X3 also includes uncommon safety touches like a pre-collision system that can close the sunroof and windows, tighten the seat belts, disable the battery, apply the brakes, and unlock the doors after a crash.

Should I buy a 2018 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.48% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model year stands out because it introduced the third-generation redesign, making it feel fully new rather than lightly revised.

The bottom line: If you want the newest-feeling version of this generation and you value the redesign, the 2018 is the right place to start. If your priority is stretching your budget, you may find better value by shopping carefully among lower-priced listings or comparing against nearby years with similar equipment.

How does the 2018 BMW X3 compare to the 2018 Audi Q5?

Our experts score the 2018 BMW X3 7.7/10 and the 2018 Audi Q5 7.8/10.

The X3 is the pricier used buy here, but it also brings a stronger sense of freshness because it was fully redesigned for 2018. The Q5 edges it on expert score and has a slightly lower average used price, while the X3 counters with more listings and a broader sense of BMW character.
