Is the 2017 Volvo XC90 a good car?

Yes — the 4.8/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Is the 2017 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary points to a reliable, dependable ownership experience, with owners highlighting its trouble-free feel, strong build quality, and confidence over the long term. That kind of feedback matters if you want a used SUV you can count on for family duty and everyday driving. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure prior maintenance and condition match the vehicle’s premium reputation.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Volvo XC90?

At 69.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and ownership history before you go any further. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially for signs of body repair, uneven panel gaps, or wear that could point to past damage. Focus closely on overall condition, since a premium SUV like this can hide expensive issues if you skip the basics.

What is the 2017 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $15,360 sits slightly below last year's $18,031.

That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help limit how much value you lose from here. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it comes time to sell. Demand should also benefit from the model’s strong owner satisfaction and premium family-SUV appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.81% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $13,716, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $15,360 average.
• The 2016 emphasizes an all-new flagship feel with flexible seating and strong safety focus.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2017 if you want the stronger current-market value story and a well-liked ownership experience. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the better price-sensitive path, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
