Is the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan is a qualified pick if you want a compact SUV with a more premium feel and everyday usability, and its 3.5/5 user rating reflects that mixed but workable appeal. Owners commonly praise the smooth driving experience, premium interior, and decent gas mileage, while also noting the compact size and handling as strengths. The Tiguan’s use case fits you best if you value a polished cabin and responsive road manners more than maximum space or the latest tech. With 37.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan stands out as a compact SUV that tries to blend a more premium feel with everyday practicality. Owners commonly appreciate its smooth driving experience, premium interior, and decent gas mileage, which supports the idea that it can be a pleasant daily driver. The same feedback also points to some concerns about a cramped-feeling cabin and limited advanced technology, so you should weigh comfort and feature expectations carefully. For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is best managed by focusing on maintenance history and avoiding examples with unresolved electrical or engine-related issues.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan?

At 62.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of past collision work, since those issues can affect long-term value. It also makes sense to pay close attention to how the cabin, electronics, and drivetrain feel during a test drive, because condition matters more than mileage alone on a used Tiguan.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 37.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,497 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.48% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,241, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $10,241 sits slightly below last year's $11,189.

That decline suggests the Tiguan has softened in the market, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. If you plan to sell later, you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, accident history, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. Clean, well-documented examples should hold up better than higher-risk listings, especially in a market where pricing has already moved down.

Should I buy a 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 37.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.48% compared with last year.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $12,448, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $10,241 average.
• It adds more cargo space and a stronger focus on backseat room and modern tech.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2017 if you want the lower price and are comfortable prioritizing value over newer practicality. If you need more cargo room, a more family-friendly layout, or the latest features, the 2018 is the better long-term fit, though you’ll pay more for it.
