How much does the 2017 Volkswagen Golf cost?

Prices have softened 4.31% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 213 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2017 Volkswagen Golf a good car?

Yes — 5/5 is a strong user rating for this model year, and the 2017 Volkswagen Golf stands out for combining serious performance with a high level of equipment. It offers strong grip, sharp responses, standard all-wheel drive, and an understated character that makes it appealing if you want a compact performance car that still feels usable every day. The cabin is also well equipped, with features like a touchscreen infotainment system, heated and electrically adjustable front seats, leather upholstery, Bluetooth connectivity, keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, bi-xenon headlights, and a rear-view camera. 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Volkswagen Golf reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2017 Volkswagen Golf is described as generally solid on reliability, but coolant leaks and water pump failures are noted as possible issues. That means you should treat maintenance history and pre-purchase inspection results as especially important on a used example. For long-term ownership, the main risk is buying a car that has been deferred on cooling-system care or other wear items.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Volkswagen Golf?

At 62.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and service history before you get too far into the process. A thorough inspection should focus on overall condition, with extra attention to signs of cooling-system trouble and evidence of uneven wear or poor repairs. Because this model is performance-oriented, you’ll also want to judge how well the car has been maintained rather than relying on mileage alone.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Volkswagen Golf?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 213 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.31% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,236, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Volkswagen Golf's resale value?

The current average of $12,010 sits slightly below last year's $12,551.

That price movement suggests the market has eased a bit, which can make the car more approachable for you as a buyer but may also limit upside for a future seller in the near term. If you plan to resell later, condition and maintenance history will matter a lot because well-kept examples are more likely to hold buyer interest. A clean, well-documented car should be easier to move than one with questionable history or deferred upkeep.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Volkswagen Golf or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.31% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line:

The 2017 is a strong choice if you want the Golf R formula at a slightly softer price point than newer examples, especially if you value performance, standard equipment, and all-weather traction. If you’re especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2017 remains the better pick when you want a well-equipped, enthusiast-focused hatchback with broad appeal.
