Summary
With 42 currently listed for sale and an average price of $21,994, 19.0% of 2017 Toyota Sequoia listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Toyota Sequoia 4.5 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2017 Toyota Sequoia stands out as a large, truck-based SUV built for buyers who want traditional body-on-frame toughness and three-row practicality. It shares its platform with the Tundra, and all Sequoias seat up to eight passengers depending on the second-row layout. That formula gives the Sequoia the kind of rugged character many shoppers want in a full-size SUV, along with the towing strength that comes from its truck roots.
For this generation, the Sequoia’s appeal is rooted in its dependable 5.7-liter V8, standard rear-wheel drive, and available part-time four-wheel drive. It also offers useful family and comfort features, including keyless entry, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, and, on higher trims, amenities such as a JBL audio system, rear-seat entertainment, rear climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, and a panoramic moonroof. Toyota Safety Sense is standard, bringing adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane keeping assistance.
The 2017 model year also benefits from the second generation’s reputation for durability, but it is not without compromises. The Sequoia’s fuel economy has never been a strong point, and its truck-like ride and sheer size may not suit every buyer. Still, for shoppers who value reliability, space, and capability over refinement, the 2017 Toyota Sequoia remains a distinctive choice.

Nice driving vehicle. Good features on the limited model. The only thing this one did not have was a remote starter option, which we will get installed. This the reason for the 4 star and not 5 star rating.

Good ride and lots of room. Like most of the controls except some could be more user friendly, IE: have to push button every time to fold in mirrors. Should be setting to do it automatically. Our last sequoia lasted forever and we NEVER had to do a thing to it. If this ones is as good, Ill be over the top happy!

Is the 2017 Toyota Sequoia reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The 2017 Toyota Sequoia’s appeal is rooted in its dependable 5.7-liter V8, standard rear-wheel drive, and available part-time four-wheel drive. It also benefits from the second generation’s reputation for durability, which is a major reason shoppers consider it for long-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is that a rugged, older-school SUV can hide wear from heavy use, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Sequoia?
At 52.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. Put the inspection priority on structural condition, suspension wear, and signs of hard use, since this is a large body-on-frame SUV that may have been worked hard. Focus on overall condition and maintenance records, especially if you plan to use it for towing or family travel.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Toyota Sequoia?
This looks like a moderate market where selective buyers can still find value if they shop carefully.
- Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 292 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.53% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 52.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $26,702, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Toyota Sequoia's resale value?
The current average of $27,516 sits slightly below last year's $30,081.
That softer pricing can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means future resale will depend heavily on how well you preserve the vehicle. If you keep mileage reasonable, maintain service records, and avoid accident history, you should be in a better position when it comes time to sell. The Sequoia’s rugged reputation and full-size SUV utility can help support demand, especially among buyers who want capability over refinement.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Sequoia or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 52.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.53% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2017 is a solid choice if you want the Sequoia’s rugged V8-powered formula and you can find one with clean history and strong maintenance records. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than the newest badge.
