What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Camry?

At 48.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had body damage or multiple owners. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and how the car drives in real-world use rather than just the odometer reading. If you are comparing several examples, the cleanest history and best maintenance trail should carry extra weight.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE comes with halogen headlights, a reversing camera, remote keyless entry, a 6.1-inch touchscreen, and basic interior trim, while the SE adds a sportier look, 17-inch alloy wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, chrome-tipped exhaust, and a rear spoiler. The XSE adds 18-inch machined alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, and Ultrasuede seating, making it the most upscale-feeling choice in the lineup.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder with 178 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic. XSE and XLE trims can also be equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 268 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque.
• Safety package: The Camry comes standard with vehicle stability control, traction control, 10 airbags, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, a reversing camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available driver-assistance features include dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: LE and SE trims use a 6.1-inch touchscreen with USB connectivity, Bluetooth hands-free calling, and Siri EyesFree. XSE and XLE trims upgrade to a 7-inch touchscreen with connected navigation, voice recognition, SiriusXM All Access, real-time traffic and weather, and a 10-speaker JBL audio system.

What is the 2017 Toyota Camry's resale value?

The current average of $14,953 sits slightly above last year's $14,857.

That small increase suggests the Camry has held value fairly well rather than sliding sharply. For a future seller, that kind of stability is helpful because it points to steady buyer interest instead of a weakening market. The current pricing also suggests that well-kept examples should remain relatively easy to move if you price them in line with condition and mileage.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Toyota Camry safe?

The 2017 Toyota Camry earns an overall crash score of Good from the IIHS, a Top Safety Pick+, and a five-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes vehicle stability control, traction control, 10 airbags, the LATCH child-seat anchoring system, a reversing camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available safety tech includes dynamic radar cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. One important caveat is that it does not have a forward-collision avoidance and prevention system.

Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 48.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It is the last year of the generation, with a competent, well-rounded sedan feel.

Consider the 2016 if:

• It is a practical, comfortable, and easy-to-live-with daily driver.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $17,809, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $14,953 average.
• It adds bolder styling and a more expressive design direction.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, satisfaction, and proven everyday usability, the 2017 is the smart primary target. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2016 can still make sense as a practical alternative, while the 2018 is worth considering if you want the newer styling and are willing to pay more.
