Is the 2017 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 4.5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota 4Runner?

At 59% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on frame, suspension, alignment, and signs of off-road wear, since this model’s rugged use can leave a bigger footprint than a typical crossover. Focus on overall condition and maintenance records, especially if you want a long-term daily driver.

What is the 2017 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $26,957 sits slightly below last year's $27,408.

That kind of softening can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively if the market stays similar. The 4Runner’s reputation for ruggedness and long-lasting value should help support demand, especially among shoppers who want a traditional SUV rather than a crossover. Even so, resale will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and whether the vehicle has a clean history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.65% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $23,932, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $26,957 average.
• It adds useful upgrades while keeping the same rugged off-road focus.

The bottom line: If you want the newer year with a strong satisfaction record and a still-reasonable market price, the 2017 is the better default choice. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2016 is the smarter secondary path, especially if you find one in excellent condition with a clean history.
