How much does the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee cost?

Prices have softened 8.62% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,352 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a 4.77/5 user rating and an 8.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfortable ride, spacious interior, and luxury features. The overview also points to its broad lineup and its ability to balance upscale appeal with Jeep’s off-road identity, which makes it a strong fit if you want an SUV that can do more than one job. Good and great deals account for 32.1% of listings, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?

Owners rate it 4.77/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a vehicle that many owners feel good about living with over time, especially because they value its comfort, performance, and towing ability. The expert evaluation also emphasizes Jeep’s long-running off-road capability and upscale interior character, which supports the idea that this is a vehicle built to serve a wide range of uses. The cost-effectiveness discussion also frames it as a strong value for its capability and comfort mix.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by hard use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

At 61.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment level matches the trim you want. Because this model can be used for everything from commuting to towing and off-road driving, wear patterns can vary a lot from one example to the next.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Laredo is the base trim and includes fog lights, halogen quad headlights, 17-inch painted aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic temperature control, a USB port, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls. The Limited adds leather seating, power-adjustable front seats, heated front and second-row seats, 18-inch polished wheels, and a body-colored front fascia with bright insert. The Overland adds LED fog lights, automatic high beams, a dual-pane panoramic moonroof, 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, rain-sensing wipers, perforated Nappa leather, and the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen. The Summit adds headlight washers, unique 20-inch wheels, chrome inserts, LED fog lamps, and an exclusive fascia design. The Trailhawk stands apart with 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, skid plates, a matte black hood, and red tow hooks.
• Powertrain: The base engine is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with 293 horsepower and an 8-speed automatic transmission. You can also get a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with 360 horsepower or a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 with 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive is available, along with multiple 4-wheel-drive systems, including Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front and side impact airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, a reversing camera, and a rear park-assist system. Available driver aids include forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and self-parking. Some features are not standard on every trim.
• Infotainment: The base Uconnect 5.0 touchscreen comes on the Laredo and Limited. The larger 8.4-inch Uconnect screen is available on the Trailhawk, Overland, and Summit. The system includes Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, and the larger setup is paired with a more advanced interface.
• Fuel efficiency: The available 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 is rated at 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.

Which 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 6 trim levels: Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Summit, and Trailhawk.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point, and it gives you the essentials at the lowest starting price. It makes sense if you want the Grand Cherokee’s core capability and styling without paying for extra luxury equipment.
• Limited: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds leather seating, heated front and second-row seats, and power-adjustable front seats without jumping all the way to the pricier luxury trims.
• Overland: Choose this if you want a more upscale cabin and a stronger tech and comfort mix, including the panoramic moonroof, perforated Nappa leather, and the 8.4-inch Uconnect screen.
• Summit: This is the luxury-focused pick, with the most premium interior and audio setup in the lineup, plus distinctive exterior touches.
• Trailhawk: Pick this if off-road capability is your priority. It adds all-terrain tires, skid plates, tow hooks, Quadra-Drive II, air suspension tuned for articulation, and Selec-Speed control.
• Altitude: This trim sits above the base model and is part of the broader lineup, but the available content here does not spell out enough unique equipment to make it the strongest recommendation over the Limited.

The safety package includes standard airbags, stability control, hill-start assist, a reversing camera, and rear park assist, with additional driver-assistance features available on higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,352 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.62% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,214, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $14,214 sits slightly below last year's $15,556.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also limit upside if you plan to sell soon. If you’re a future seller, the key is to buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition so you’re not competing from a weak starting point. Models with desirable equipment and clean histories should hold up better than rougher examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.77/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a five-star overall crash rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and it earns a best score of Good from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in moderate overlap front, side, rear, and roof-strength crash tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front and side impact airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, a reversing camera, and rear park assist. Available driver-assistance features include forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and self-parking. If you want the most advanced safety setup, you’ll want to check carefully because some of those features are not standard on every trim.

Should I buy a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.62% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.77/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 stands out for its broad trim range, strong off-road identity, and upscale cabin appeal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $13,027, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $14,214 average.
• It offers broad capability and strong image for buyers who want towing, off-pavement ability, and Jeep styling.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2017 if you want the stronger current-market mix of value, inventory, and owner satisfaction. If your top priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the better budget path, especially if you find one in clean condition with the equipment you want.
