Should I buy a 2017 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.57% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $23,785, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $26,754 average.
• It adds useful upgrades like navigation and higher towing capacity.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2017 if you want the stronger current-market balance of price, satisfaction, and availability. If your top priority is saving money upfront, the 2016 is the better value play, especially if its lower average price matters more than the newer-year market position.
