Why it stands out
The 2017 Subaru Forester is notable for its balance of functionality and safety, making it a strong contender in the compact SUV market. With standard all-wheel drive, the Forester equips drivers for various terrains and weather conditions, ensuring confidence on the road. Notably, the Forester comes with upgraded EyeSight driver-assistance technology this year, enhancing safety through features like adaptive cruise control and forward-collision warning. Owners appreciate its spacious and functional interior, which includes ample cargo space (31.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats) and a comfortable driving position that offers excellent outward visibility.
While the vehicle has made improvements in technology, such as enhancing its Starlink infotainment system and refining interior acoustics, it retains its boxy aesthetic, which prioritizes function over style. Additionally, different performance variants allow buyers to choose between efficiency-focused models and those with turbocharged power for sporty driving experiences. However, some reviewers note that despite the Forester’s capabilities, the continuously variable transmission (CVT) may not deliver the smoothest driving experience. Overall, the 2017 Subaru Forester is an appealing option for those emphasizing safety, comfort, and practicality in their SUV choice.

I fell in love with this car at first sight. I drove and considered a 2025 Forester to compare and could not move to 2025. The 2017 Forester is friendly, bright, wide visibility, you sit high in it, it has a smooth ride and has all the basics that you need. My particular pre-owned model had a quality I cannot describe that is probably due to the previous owner but it is a perfect car. I would not hesitate to buy at 2017 Forester, unless it is truly toward the end of its life.

Excellent value for the money, the moon roof extends back to the third row and is my favorite feature. Very kid friendly, and exceptionally comfortable. Packed with all the creature comforts one could want in a vehicle.

It’s my first subaru and I’m already in love with the whole brand! The adaptive cruise control is one amazing feature, the cabin feels cavernous, and I feel glued to the road.

If you live in an area where 4 wheel drive is a winter necessity the Subaru Forester fills that need with comfort and stability. The all wheel drive (AWD) that never shuts off gives more sure footed traction Winter and Summer. It doesnt matter if you buy the basic model or the luxury model the AWD and stability control are standard features.
