Yes — 5/5 is a strong user rating for this model year, and the BRZ’s appeal centers on a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive sports coupe setup that prioritizes balance and driver involvement over outright speed. Subaru’s 2017 refresh added a bit more power and torque with the manual transmission, plus revised gearing, a new front fascia, and LED headlights, so you get a sharper version of the same focused formula. It also offers usable everyday equipment, with a manual or automatic transmission and available Performance Package or Series.Yellow touches for buyers who want a more distinctive setup.

Is the 2017 Subaru BRZ reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The BRZ’s reliability story is tied to its simple, enthusiast-focused mission: it is built around balance, a manual-friendly driving experience, and a relatively straightforward sports-car formula rather than complex performance hardware. That kind of setup can be appealing for used buyers who want a car that stays true to its purpose.

For long-term ownership, your biggest risk is less about luxury complexity and more about finding a well-kept example that has been maintained and driven responsibly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Subaru BRZ?

At 55.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks for signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, and suspension or wheel damage. Because this is a sports coupe, focus on condition details that matter to enthusiastic driving, including tire wear, brake wear, and how cleanly the car shifts and tracks on the road.

What is the 2017 Subaru BRZ's resale value?

The current average of $19,092 sits slightly below last year's $19,832.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can work against you if you plan to sell soon. On the other hand, it may help you buy at a more favorable entry point today, especially if you find a clean example with strong equipment and a good maintenance record.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Subaru BRZ or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 25.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.73% compared with last year.

The bottom line: If you want the BRZ’s core formula with a slightly updated look and a bit more punch from the 2017 refresh, this is the year to target. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a nearby year may be worth considering, but the 2017 remains the better pick when you want the refreshed version of this lightweight sports coupe.
