Is the 2017 Subaru BRZ a good car?

Yes — 5/5 is a strong user rating for the 2017 Subaru BRZ, and it fits the car’s focus on balance and driver involvement over outright speed. The overview points to a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive sports coupe with a crisp chassis, a manual transmission option, and enough everyday equipment to make it usable beyond weekend drives. It also highlights the tradeoff you should expect: limited back-seat and trunk space, plus a driving experience centered more on handling than straight-line acceleration. With 30.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.

Is the 2017 Subaru BRZ reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview suggests a simple, focused sports-car formula rather than a complicated one, which can be appealing if you want a used car that stays true to its mission. Its emphasis on balance, driver involvement, and everyday usability points to a car that was designed to be straightforward rather than overbuilt with unnecessary complexity. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the concept and more about finding one that has been cared for properly, since condition matters a lot in a car that may have been driven enthusiastically.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Subaru BRZ?

At 60.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should get priority, especially on suspension, brakes, and signs of hard use, since this model’s appeal often attracts spirited driving. Focus on overall condition and maintenance records so you can separate a well-kept sports coupe from one that has been driven hard and neglected.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Subaru BRZ?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 101 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.14% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,827, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Subaru BRZ's resale value?

The current average of $19,361 sits slightly below last year's $20,197.

That price movement suggests the market has eased, which can help you buy more carefully now but may also mean future resale gains are limited unless the car is especially clean and well maintained. For a future seller, condition and documentation will matter a lot because buyers in this segment tend to compare examples closely. A well-kept BRZ with strong appeal and the right equipment should still draw interest, but the broader market trend points to steady rather than rising values.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Subaru BRZ or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.14% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want the BRZ’s core formula with a refreshed look and a slightly stronger manual-transmission setup, the 2017 is the right year to target. If your priority is simply finding the lowest entry price, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2017 gives you a compelling mix of value, enthusiast appeal, and market softness that makes it a smart primary choice for shoppers who care about driving feel.
