CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Porsche Panamera
overall

Summary
With 314 currently listed for sale and an average price of $40,297, 34.7% of 2017 Porsche Panameras for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Porsche Panamera 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.5 / 10.
73.2% of 2017 Panamera models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Porsche Panamera stands out because it combines the character of a Porsche sports car with the practicality of a large luxury four-door. Porsche’s first-ever sedan was already notable for delivering performance at the highest levels associated with the company’s 911 sports cars, and the all-new 2017 version pushes performance, style, and technology even further. That mix makes it distinctive for buyers who want a sedan that feels far more athletic than its size suggests.
The Turbo model is especially striking, with the test-drive impression that it may be mankind’s closest experience with invincibility. That kind of praise points to the Panamera’s core appeal: serious power and a driving experience that can feel overwhelming in the best way. Owners also commonly praise the car’s performance and luxury features, along with its spacious interior, which helps the Panamera balance speed with everyday usability.
There are a couple of caveats worth keeping in mind. Some owners mention rapid depreciation in value, and a few note occasional challenges from other drivers on the highway. Even so, the 2017 Porsche Panamera remains distinctive because it delivers high-end luxury and standout performance in a sedan format that is still unusual, even by luxury-car standards.

Car is amazing. Only bad thing is that everyone on the highway that sees it wants to challenge it. Unfortunately they don’t know that every with the 3.0 V6 turbo it has sports plus mode that is insane: I’m 6’ 3” 250lbs and the car has plenty of room. Good storage in trunk as well. I did smash the rear windshield 5 minutes off the lot at a gas station but I still love my baby!!!

There is nothing that compares to the Panamera! The quality, engineering and craftsmanship far exceeds any Mercedes, BMW and any other card I’ve ever owned… I was not a big Porsche fan after owning an older 911 Turbo, it was amazing as well but did not leave me with this renewed opinion of the over-all Porsche experience!

The same feedback also emphasizes the car’s performance and luxury strengths, which suggests owners tend to count on it as a satisfying long-term ownership experience.
The expert driving impression reinforces that sense of durability and composure, with the car described as engineered to extremes and built around a serious, high-end driving experience. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is not basic dependability so much as the cost of keeping a complex luxury performance sedan in top shape.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Porsche Panamera?
At 73.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a car with higher mileage or a long option list. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the car’s luxury and performance systems are working as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin is described as elegant and expensive, with four bucket seats, a full-leather interior, and a design that feels purpose-built rather than flashy. The base car does not get the same level of luxury and technology richness described for the Turbo, so you should pay close attention to feature content if you want a more fully equipped example.
- Powertrain: The Turbo uses a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 550 horsepower and 567 pound-feet of torque, paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic and all-wheel drive. The broader lineup also includes V6 and hybrid variants, so you should verify which engine and drivetrain you’re getting.
- Safety package: Night vision with pedestrian detection, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and other active safety features are available. Porsche does not go as far with safety as some rivals, so it’s worth checking exactly which driver-assistance features are fitted on the car you’re considering.
- Infotainment: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the system is described as fast and intuitive. Porsche’s onboard LTE and Wi-Fi, plus the advanced interface and connected features, make tech content a strong point to verify on any used example.
- Fuel efficiency: The Turbo is EPA-rated at 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.
Which 2017 Porsche Panamera trim should I buy?
The 2017 Porsche Panamera is offered in 6 trim levels: Panamera, Panamera 4, Panamera S, Panamera 4S, Panamera Turbo, Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.
Here's the short version:
- Panamera: This is the entry point if you want the Panamera experience at the lowest price, but you should expect fewer luxury and performance extras than the higher trims.
- Panamera 4: This is the better-value choice for many shoppers because it adds all-wheel drive while staying below the more expensive performance models.
- Panamera S: This trim steps up to a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 with 440 hp and 405 lb-ft, making it a stronger pick if you want more punch without jumping all the way to Turbo pricing.
- Panamera 4S: This is the sweet spot if you want the stronger V6 plus all-wheel drive, giving you a more complete performance-and-traction package.
- Panamera Turbo: This is the standout choice if you want the full experience, with the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, 550 horsepower, and the most dramatic acceleration and handling character described in the test drive.
- Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid: This is the most powerful version mentioned, with 680 horsepower and 626 lb-ft, but the added weight means it is not quicker than the non-hybrid Turbo.
For safety-minded shoppers, note that Porsche offers active safety features such as night vision with pedestrian detection, auto-braking, and lane-keep assist, but it does not go as far with safety technology as some rivals.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Porsche Panamera?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.
- Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 310 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.02% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 73.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $39,900, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Porsche Panamera's resale value?
The current average of $40,372 sits slightly below last year's $42,506.
That price movement suggests the market has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. It also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment, since well-kept examples will stand out more in a premium segment.
The model’s strong reputation with owners and its desirable performance-luxury mix should help support demand over time. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Porsche Panamera safe?
The 2017 Porsche Panamera has not been crash-tested by government or insurance agencies.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Night vision with pedestrian detection, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and other active safety features are available. Porsche does not go as far with safety as some rivals, so you should verify which driver-assistance features are present on the specific car you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2017 Porsche Panamera or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 73.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.02% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The all-new second-generation Panamera pushes performance, style, and technology further, while the Turbo model delivers the most dramatic test-drive impression.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest blend of performance, luxury, and modern tech in this generation, the 2017 is the year to target. If you’re more price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully for a well-kept example and use the softened pricing and decent deal availability to your advantage.
