Is the 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

The overview frames this model as a style-first small crossover, and the expert review backs that up: you get the most appeal from the design and cabin presentation rather than from performance. That makes it a better fit if you want a compact SUV that looks upscale and feels pleasant inside, not one that prioritizes driving excitement.

30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you have a meaningful chance to find one that fits your budget.

Is the 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The expert review suggests the Rogue Sport’s appeal comes from its modern features, pleasing interior, and practical everyday usability more than from mechanical excitement. Its performance notes point to a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a CVT that works acceptably in normal driving, while the cost-effectiveness commentary emphasizes that you’re getting a lot of technology for the money.

If you’re shopping used, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a vehicle whose condition or equipment level doesn’t match the asking price, so it pays to verify maintenance history and inspect the car carefully before you buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport?

At 58.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the equipment on the car matches the trim and package claims in the listing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S is the least expensive path, but the SV adds more desirable equipment, and the SL is the most upscale version. The cabin is described as having softer materials and superior finishes, while the SL is the trim that gets the machined-face 19-inch aluminum wheels that help the Rogue Sport look more expensive than it is.
• Powertrain: The Rogue Sport uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 141 horsepower and a CVT. The expert review says it feels fine in normal urban driving, but it lacks urgency when you ask for hard acceleration or highway passing.
• Safety package: The SV Premium Package adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Automatic emergency braking and automatic high-beam LED headlights are restricted to the SL Premium Package, and the Platinum Package adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and lane-departure prevention.
• Infotainment: NissanConnect brings a 7-inch touchscreen, NissanConnect Mobile Apps, NissanConnect Services, and navigation on the SV with the Premium Package and standard on the SL. It also includes text-messaging support, Siri Eyes Free compatibility, and app access, but there is no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review says the AWD test vehicle returned 24.4 mpg on a test loop, while the EPA figure cited in the review was 27 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport trim should I buy?

The 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, SL.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point if you want the lowest-cost way into the Rogue Sport, but the review makes clear that the model’s appeal is strongest when you move up for more equipment and a more polished feel.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the more desirable technology and can be equipped with the Premium Package, which brings blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and the 360-degree surround-view camera system with Moving Object Detection.
• SL: This is the trim to choose if you want the most upscale presentation and the most available safety and convenience tech, including the automatic emergency braking and automatic high-beam LED headlights that are part of the SL Premium Package.

For safety equipment, note that automatic emergency braking and automatic high-beam LED headlights are limited to the SL Premium Package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport?

This looks like a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 586 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.91% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,808, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport's resale value?

The current average of $11,820 sits slightly below last year's $12,696.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at a strong price and keep the vehicle in clean condition, you’ll be better positioned to preserve value than someone who pays near the top of the range.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport safe?

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Rogue Sport’s safety equipment is strongest on higher trims. The SV Premium Package adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the SL Premium Package brings automatic emergency braking and automatic high-beam LED headlights. If you move to the Platinum Package, you also get adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and lane-departure prevention.

One important caveat is that crash-test ratings were not available in the expert review text, so you should lean more heavily on the equipment list and the specific trim you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.91% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert review says the Rogue Sport’s strongest appeal is its stylish sheetmetal and comparatively pleasing interior aesthetics, backed by impressive available technologies.

The bottom line: If you want the Rogue Sport’s style-first appeal and you can find a clean, well-equipped example at a good price, the 2017 is a reasonable buy. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the best-condition listing you can find rather than chasing the cheapest one, because accident history and missing equipment can quickly erase the savings.
