CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander

Summary
With 280 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,703.00, 29.3% of 2017 Mitsubishi Outlanders for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander 4 / 5 stars.
60.4% of 2017 Outlander models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander stands out in the compact SUV class for one simple reason: it offered third-row seating, something many rivals in its segment did not. It also had available all-wheel drive and a reputation for strong warranties, which helped give it appeal for shoppers looking for a practical, value-oriented SUV. At the same time, it was not a class leader, and its four-cylinder models were known for weak performance.
For 2017, the Outlander’s equipment was more complete than before. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were added to the SE trim, and the base ES trim got a six-inch touchscreen and a rearview camera as standard. The GT trim also gained power-folding mirrors and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, along with an optional heated steering wheel and a surround-view camera system. Those updates made the Outlander easier to live with, even if it still lagged behind more polished competitors.
Buyers considering a 2017 Outlander also had to weigh its limitations. The model was described as less polished or refined than contemporaries, and its value retention was below average. Even so, its combination of seating flexibility, available AWD, and a relatively generous feature set made it distinctive among used compact SUVs.

Extremely well appointed interior on the SEL trim package. Great safety features including lane departure. Although individual tastes vary, I find the exterior of this vehicle to be attractive...slightly aggressive but still refined. Definitely a good value for the price. Although some reviews say that the four cylinder engine is underwhelming, it is just fine for my needs given that I am a rather conservative driver. In summary, I really like this vehicle.

How much does the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,613 |
| Year-Round Low | $10,212.67 |
| Year-Round High | $11,431.36 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $11,420 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.06% |
Prices have softened 7.06% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 282 listings available, which gives you a workable amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $10,212.67, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander a good car?
Generally — the 4/5 user rating suggests you can feel reasonably confident if you want a practical, value-oriented compact SUV. The 2017 Outlander stands out for offering third-row seating, available all-wheel drive, and a more complete equipment list than before, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the SE trim. It is especially relevant if you want seating flexibility and useful features without moving up to a larger SUV.
That said, the same overview also makes clear that it was not a class leader and lagged behind more polished competitors. For you, that means the Outlander makes the most sense if practicality matters more than refinement. 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview points to a model that appealed through strong warranties and practical value, which can help reduce ownership anxiety for used buyers. At the same time, it was described as less polished than rivals, so you should expect a vehicle that prioritizes usefulness over sophistication. For long-term ownership, that means your biggest risk is not outright appeal but whether the specific example has been maintained well enough to stay dependable.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander?
At 60.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on bodywork, alignment, and signs of uneven wear that can hint at past repairs. Focus your condition check on the specific listing in front of you, because the market includes enough incident history that you should not assume a clean record.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 282 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.06% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 60.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,212.67, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander's resale value?
The current average of $10,613 sits slightly below last year's $11,420.
That price movement suggests the Outlander has softened, which can work against you if you're planning to sell soon. A lower market average usually means you may need to price more competitively to attract attention. On the other hand, the model's practical layout and feature set can still help it appeal to value-focused shoppers who want seating flexibility.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.06% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $9,196, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $10,613 average.
- It improved substantially while still feeling less compelling than stronger rivals.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $11,050, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $10,613 average.
- It leans harder into modern tech and driver-assistance features.
The bottom line: You should start with the 2017 if you want the best balance of price, practicality, and available features. If your budget is tighter, the 2016 is the better value play; if you care more about newer tech, the 2018 is the smarter upgrade path.
