How much does the 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class cost?

Prices have softened 4.05% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 728 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class a good car?

Yes — the 4.9/5 user rating points to very strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its elegant design, smooth driving experience, performance, safety, and comfort, and many describe it as luxurious and dependable. If you want a flagship sedan that emphasizes refinement and a high-end cabin, this model year fits that use case well. With 34.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also describes it as dependable, and the praise for comfort and smooth handling suggests a car that many buyers feel confident living with over time. That said, you should still expect luxury-car ownership costs, so long-term risk for used buyers is less about day-to-day trustworthiness and more about repair and maintenance expense if something goes wrong.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

At 60.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage or repeated claims. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on condition, repair quality, and signs of deferred maintenance. Because this is a sophisticated luxury car, you’ll want to pay close attention to how well the electronics, suspension, and interior features have been maintained.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile opportunities.

• Deal availability: 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 728 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.05% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $38,292, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class's resale value?

The current average of $38,657 sits slightly below last year's $40,287.

That price movement suggests the market has eased, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key is to buy well and keep the car in strong condition, because a lower entry price can help offset depreciation later. Strong owner satisfaction can also support demand when it’s time to list the car again.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.05% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, owner satisfaction, and current market softness, the 2017 is the primary year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-documented example rather than chasing the newest badge alone.
